La Scala's How small a room do you have them in

Moving from 3,500 sf to 1,300 sf in a Senior community.

 

Love my La Scala's wondering how they perform in a much small space.

 

Ideas and suggestions are what I am looking for

I had a pair of LS in an 11x18 room and the worked very well. They were in the corners on the short wall.

Just got a floor plan with measurements and it looks like its 11" X 11" with a slight opening on the left side.

 

Ha anyone done any sound treatment in small rooms

That might be tight depending on your other furnishings.

I have La Scala AL5 as my surround speakers in a 13' x 17' room (about 5.5' from the center listening position) and they sound great.

I think you need to sit around 12-13 ft away from the lascalas for the drivers to integrate. Near field monitors they are NOT.

Pretty sure that only applies to the Klipschorn.  I'm pretty sure it was Jim Hunter who I heard say that you need to be around 12 ft or more away from the Klipschorn due to the fact that the output of the two widely splayed mouths of the bass bin don't sum correctly until that distance.  That doesn't apply to the La Scala.  I've never had a issue with my La Scala surrounds being about 6 ft away.  They even create a really good rear phantom center image.  For example, the Rhino reissues of the quad mixes of four of the Doobie Brothers early albums have instruments periodically placed in the center back.  My surrounds reproduce this very well.

I don’t give any sh*ts about surround sound, so I can’t speak to how they would work in that capacity. But I know when facing them, it’s best to sit a little further away. Now this is subjective and I understand that small details don’t matter to some listeners and that’s ok. But I’m more about quality than quantity, so I sweat the small things. And although LaScalas will “work” in small spaces, I’m of the opinion you don’t get what you paid for.

I sit 9 ft away from my Heritage Jubilee fronts in that same room without issue.  You can definitely sit closer to La Scala than Jubilee.  I think @JMeader will be be fine with La Scala in his small room with proper placement and some room treatment.  To quote @Chief bonehead, who I consulted with about my setup before purchasing the Jubes, smaller rooms need bigger horns.

Yes you can sit as close as you like. And if that’s the kind of presentation you prefer, so be it. It’s not for me. I always clearly heard the improvement in soundstage development, imaging and tonal balance when moving further back.

 

As I’ve said before, most things will “work”. Doesn’t mean they are ideal.

I think my LSI are between 6 and 7 feet. Maybe 8 on the pair upstairs. I need a bigger space.

Yes small room with LS... listening close at reduced volume whenever was expecting something and wanted to hear inside and outside.

Took advantage of having a door to increase volume while outside the room or outside with window.

So, versatile for some plus, can have my Klipsch, dang it !

Just like you, I will most likely be moving from my house to a 55+ Independent Living, Senior Housing, community in the not too distant future.

 

My main concern is that all of the Senior Apartments in my neck of the woods are multi-story buildings.

I wonder about how much sound would be transmitted through the floor and down to a downstairs neighbor?

 

I would probably sell my Klipschorns and take my LaScalas.

But I wonder if I might end up using my pair of Realistic Minimus 7 speakers?

Or, even just a pair of headphones?

You might think about moving to a smaller set of Klipsch.

I recently retired and moved from a large 2 bedroom apartment to a trailer home.  I am in the midst of selling my 1980 La Scalas.(which simply take up too much room.) 

 I bought a nice pair of mint Fortes which have been nicely upgraded from a member of this Forum.  My only consolation in downgrading speakers is that my Prima Luna Tube Integrated will keep my tunes sounding PRIMO!
