PSalamh
Hello, Looking to create a reasonable setup for listening to vinyl. I am an old soul that likes the warm sounds of vintage vinyl in the jazz, soft rock and Christmas genre. Without too much thought I purchased a Sony STRDH190 receiver and started looking at speakers. After some looking it was between Heresy I or KG4s and with putting it all together I am thinking I will go for the KG4s for now, reviews are good and more reasonably priced. I can still return my Sony receiver but before I do I wanna make sure that I am not simply spending more money for something "cooler" if the Sony will do the job and not leaving me wanting more in a few months. For a bit more it looks like I can grab a vintage Marantz, Pioneer, etc. or something similar but want to make sure it is equipped for the speakers. I like the vintage look with the woodgrain outside and blue LED lights, but I want form and function and feel a bit lost with so many options and price ranges galore. I am looking to run a mid range Audio-Technica turntable. I would truly appreciate any guidance from y'all, thanks in advance.
wuzzzer
A vintage receiver with a dedicated phono input would be my first choice.
Peter P.
ANY receiver, new or vintage, will work with the kg4s. My concern would be that the "vintage" receiver you want can be kept in working order. As long as you have a service shop in mind that can fix the vintage receiver you have in mind when needed, pick anything. Certainly a new era receiver will be more reliable, likely have more convenient digital FM/AM tuning, and perhaps a subwoofer output.
PSalamh
Thank you both very much! I wasn't thinking in lines of having the vintage one serviced over time. So I wouldn't be losing anything from a sound or function perspective by keeping the Sony?

It's so easy to build a solid state receiver that outperforms your ability to hear any faults and you'll likely find the newer equipment has better specs. As long as you don't drive the amp section to clipping, you're fine. Again, today's receivers will have more convenience features such as subwoofer outputs and a digital FM section with memory, making it easier to tune stations.
