DaltonFTW Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 1. Got the WAF for a two channel set up in my main living area. 2. Fisher 500c rehab underway 3. Going with Klipsch Heritage or a Crites DIY set up 4. System must be set up in one particular spot. It is a 6 ' wide wall, with door openings on each side (left side normal threshold of 30" (no door present), the right side open hallway (wide and deep). 5. Room has 9 foot ceilings, hardwood floors, open room about 15' wide X 20' deep. 6. Pretty much have to keep the speakers against the wall, could move them out for critical listening - no problem there. But think close to the wall. 7. I could go with Heresy's, Cornscala's, Forte, Chorus, Cornwall's - I have the width to cover that, as the audio stand is @ 26" Due to my constraints above in #4 and #6, what is my best choice/option? Thank you in advance! Quote
Ceptorman Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I think a new pair of Forte IV would be the best option, with a 6' wide opening and a 26" audio stand, it will be tight. Heresy will fit, probably Chorus also. 1 Quote
wuzzzer Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I would go with Klipsch. In my opinion DIY is cool for some things (like my subwoofers) but if you go Klipsch you'll have speakers that will hold their value very well, know that all the components and the synergy between them have been tested (and possibly even signed off on by PWK himself) and have access to replacement parts and support. If you don't go with a subwoofer I'd recommend forte, Chorus, Cornwall or Quartet. 1 Quote

DaltonFTW Posted August 27, 2024 Author Posted August 27, 2024 (edited) ETA: The wall that the rig will be placed against is exactly 6 feet wide. Have a SVS Sub for any application here. It is the sealed sub version. Edited August 27, 2024 by DaltonFTW Quote

Pretty awesome experience. 1 Quote
DaltonFTW Posted August 27, 2024 Author Posted August 27, 2024 As far as Heresy goes. I love the fit and finish of the new IV's. With the IV's having a rear port, will this matter when I have to have them so close to the wall? I have ample time to get this rig set up, as my tube repair guy has a 6 month wait. I was thinking about finding a pair of legacy heresy's and converting to superheresy's. All thoughts are welcome. And thank you for the replies. FWIW - I was hoping Heresy's would be the group think here, as they are much more affordable. Quote
Shakeydeal Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Can you post a pic of the area where the system will reside? I'm having a hard time visualizing it. If I understand right, the wall you will have the speakers against is only 6 ft. wide. So if going with something like the Forte, you would have less than 3.5 ft. of space between the speakers. Not ideal in any stretch. Am I understanding that correctly? Quote
DaltonFTW Posted August 27, 2024 Author Posted August 27, 2024 See pic; there is a book shelf there now. That wall is 6' wide. You can see the openings to the left and right. 1 Quote
Shakeydeal Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 I would try as hard as possible to find a different location. I know sometimes we have to deal with what we got, but that's a terrible place to set up speakers. That doesn't look like a room that you will be allowed to add any sort of treatment, so you already have all those hard, reflective surfaces to deal with. Add to that the small amount of real estate between the speakers and you've really got issues. If you only want background music it would be ok. But for serious "sit down and focus on the music" listening, it's a thumbs down from me. I hate to sound discouraging and I wish you the best of luck. I guess it all depends on your priorities and your expectations. 1 Quote
82 Cornwalls Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Perfect place for small speakers that can be hidden. Quote

You’ll be tripping over any of the Heritage options. My opinion, cornwall, chorus or forte will look ridiculous and dominate the room and Heresy, while smaller, take up similar floor real estate as forte. Quote

You can see one has a very large space, with display and large console on it. I am running my SS/Dynaudio system on that space now****. The other "wall" is a window space, that "might" work. ****This might be a bit strange, but here is why I don't want to use that large wall space with the flat screen. 1. Will use the cabinet to store the electronics - will get too hot. 2. I find I am staring at the display and not "listening" to music. I want to separate the two. Does this make sense? Ultimate goal here was to sell the Dynaudio system to fund the Klipsch project. WAF is in full force here as the older look of Klipsch Heritage is getting buy in from the wife. I think she would rather the bookshelves be off the entertainment center. Sincerely, thank you for the advice. That is why I came here. I don't want to spend the $ for this system to not be optimal. I will just keep things as is, if that is the case. 1 Quote

Right now I have a small set up with a Fisher x-100 and some RB-5 II's in my office. I think I will move those there to get a "feel" for what will work. I will work on that over the long weekend and post a pic and check back in. While I love the RB5's. They are too industrial for the WAF in the main living area. 1 Quote
winglet Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 It makes sense, but either side of that cabinet under the TV would make a nice place for a pair of Forte. Slide those side glass shelves further to the outside and use one for your electronics 1 Quote
82 Cornwalls Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 WAF on moving glass shelves just a little bit and putting the Dynaudio L and R speakers on stands so their tops are about even with the top of the entertainment center? Quote
billybob1 Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Never heard of RB-5 as industrial looking. Like the idea of others above on the forte's. Quote
DaltonFTW Posted August 28, 2024 Author Posted August 28, 2024 I am going to tape off a footprint next to the largish entertainment piece and see what forte's will look like. Oddly enough, my wife wanted a design consultation for her birthday, and that happened today. The way she moved furniture around makes the two flanking walls (one was the OG pic above that had openings to each side) a non-starter now. Small blessings I guess. As to moving the dynaudio's to stands...I am ready to move on from those. They ARE the root of this problem. I want an entire seperate system for TV viewing and audio listening. I want to move to Tubes and some heritage type speakers, especially if my wife is buying in. She's a traditional/classic style person and the dynaudio are industrial to her too. Hey, and now I get to keep my office rig as / is! win win. Thank you all for chiming in. I will keep all posted!!!! 2 Quote
Shakeydeal Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Another suggestion. Is there any way you can put this heritage/tube two channel system in the office? If you get it out of the living room you'll probably have more options for speaker placement and room treatment. Quote
DaltonFTW Posted August 28, 2024 Author Posted August 28, 2024 Shakeydeal - There lies the problem. I WFH and I need to break out of the office more often. My office is small - 13' X 10' and the set up I have there is perfect for a small watt tube amp (hence the X-100 in there with the RB5's. I want to have a much more musical experience in my living room area and that is what brought me here. I have to sell off a bunch of gear and then regroup and focus on the Forte exploration. This will be fun and I believe it to be the correct direction. Isn't this what makes the hobby so fun? 1 Quote
