Integrated Amp for Heresy IVs

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up a new pair of Heresy IVs. I have been having trouble finding the right amp. At first, I just bought a Marantz M1 from Best Buy because I could get it delivered the same day as the speakers and was impatient. I bought the amp with the intention of returning it when I had found a good deal online. When all of it arrived, I was actually really blown away by the speakers and thought that I'd settle for the M1. However, I found a great deal on a Cambridge Evo 150 which had seemingly great reviews online. So I returned the M1 and got the Evo. To my surprise, I hated how the Evo sounded with the Heresy IVs. It was almost 1-dimensional sounding and extremely harsh on my ears after short listening sessions. After much deliberation, I now have sold the Evo 150 and am having a hard time deciding on what to get next. I was super impressed with the M1, but I know I could probably do better. Should I just do that? I've also been looking at the Model 40n. But then, I see people saying I should probably just get separate components. The thing is, I really want eARC capability as I do want the option to hook it up to my TV. I don't know. Just feel like I'm really getting so lost in trying to find the "perfect" amp pairing and I just want to listen to some music. I thought I'd reach out to the community for any recommendations/thoughts.

Thanks!

Thanks for the responses, everyone. Here's where I'm at right now:

- Arcam A25

- Marantz 60n (Just saw this get released but only 60w)

- Technics SU-G700M2

- Yamaha R-N1000A

I did look at the NAD and that Marantz option. Just not a big fan of the aesthetic if it's going to be the centerpiece of my living room. Any advice on the above?

Thanks!

It sounds like the M1 is the best of all worlds for you.  The Stereo70s is down at 75W per channel but has an extra subwoofer out if you want to go up to 2.2.  Unless you are planning to step up to 5.1 and you want to consider the Cinema70s or NR1510 you may just end up where you started. Good Luck!

I just got the M1 for my Cornwall 4s.  I bought it for the eARC capability during football season.  I didn't want to waste tube life on my other amps when it will be on for hours and hours at a time.

I will agree, with my limited time listening, that it punches way better that the price would indicate.  I haven't had a moment to do any critical listening or comparisons, but so far I have found no faults with the little guy.  Even the much maligned HEOS is working as advertised, but I'm sure I'll still use Roon.  For reference other amps in my stable are Aurorsound HFSA-1, Heaven 11 Billie MK2, and a Decware Zen.

It's not for everybody due to the digital nature of the product, but so far it get's a thumbs up from me.

Hey everyone,

Just a quick update. Thanks for all of the help! I went with the new 60n from Marantz. Wanted to check out a class AB amp as compared to the class D. I still need to get a good listening session in. From my first impressions, 60n is obviously a bit warmer sounding than the M1. The M1 is a bit brighter and provide better definition for vocals (however, I did have the 60n connected via ARC to watch a movie last night and it sounded great). However, the low-end on the 60n is definitely more-so what I was looking for. Because the Heresy IVs are so efficient, 60w I found is more than enough to get yelled at in my household. I'll keep y'all updated on my thoughts as I give a more in-depth listen to these.

Thanks so much for all the help!

I know the feeling I have an Emotiva MR1L that does 140wpc in stereo.  When I have friends over, I tell them to pick their favorite song right off the bat because we only have about 2 until I get shut down! Cheers
