GuyIsDamGood Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 Hello I have the Yamaha A-S2200 Integrated Amplifier; and received info (from Martin Logan) telling me: I shouldn't connect to the Active-Subwoofer(s) through Speaker-level In-put. Martin Logan suggests using the (RCA) Line-in or XLR connection. I've contacted Yamaha; and they told me the same info. I need to purchase another Russound ADP 2.1 Speaker-level to Line-level Interface device, and two Audioquest Evergreen RCA (stereo) cables. (I have used the Russound ADP 2.1 Interface device in the past (with the Yamaha R-N 803 Amplifier/receiver). It gave an alright sound) But how will it sound with two Russound ADP 2.1 devices out-put from the Yamaha A-S2200? - (I'll find-out) Does anyone have experience using the Russound ADP 2.1 device with (so-called) higher-level / integrated amplifiers? If-any; how does it sound? Thank you Quote
82 Cornwalls Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 Please explain how you think not using the internal (in subwoofer) interface for speaker wire inputs and instead using an external interface device that does the same exact thing is going to change anything? Just use the pre out on the Yamaha if you can't bring yourself to use the speaker inputs. As mentioned several times before the speaker inputs will work fine as long as you use 1 sub for L and 1 sub for R. 1 Quote
GuyIsDamGood Posted September 14, 2024 Author Posted September 14, 2024 (edited) (thanks for your reply) I somewhat changed my mind on the Speaker-level output connection from the Yamaha A-S2200 to the Martin Logan Dynamo 1600X Subwoofer(s); because of this reply-message from Martin Logan: Hello J, It can cause damage in the long run, yes. Active subwoofers are designed to work best with line-level (RCA or XLR) inputs, which provide the correct signal for their internal amplification. Using a speaker-level connection may push unnecessary power to the subwoofer's internal amplifier, which could overwork it. Even if you're not hearing distortion, there could be underlying electrical stress on the amplifier or the subwoofer’s input circuitry. This could shorten the lifespan of both components, cause overheating, or eventually lead to malfunction. (it currently works well through Speaker-level In-put) - but I'm receiving negative-support from Martin Logan and Yamaha on the Speaker-level connection. (I have the Pre-outs on the Yamaha A-S2200 connected to the Rotel RB-1582 Mkii External Amplifier. (I use the speakers-Off feature to mute the subwoofers) -I'll have to split the pre-out connection from the Yamaha A-S2200 for the subwoofers and external amplifier to have audio-intergration) Edited September 14, 2024 by GuyIsDamGood Quote
82 Cornwalls Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 If that is your concern then using the Russound adapters might ease your mind, I have one and have never noticed any issue using it with a Crown amp driving passive subwoofers. I think they are overstating the possible problems of using speaker wire with their subwoofers, why even have the option? I would use them this way and never even give it a second thought. Obviously many companies have sold subwoofers for decades with speaker level inputs. Wonder what REL does different with their subwoofers since they recommend using the speaker level inputs. 1 Quote
GuyIsDamGood Posted September 14, 2024 Author Posted September 14, 2024 (edited) I totally agree. Yesterday; I contacted Yamaha to ask them is the Yamaha NS-SW1000 compatible (through Speaker-level) with the Yamaha A-S2200? The Yamaha tech dude told me: "the Yamaha NS-SW1000 Active-Subwoofer is Compatible with the Yamaha A-S2200 through Speaker-level". What is the difference (through Speaker-level) between the Yamaha subwoofer and the Martin Logan Dynamo subwoofer? Or Yamaha just says that to make sales? 82 Cornwalls Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Many speaker companies don't make their subwoofer amplifiers, perhaps ML out sources and doesn't really know much about them and how they work. 1 Quote
GuyIsDamGood Posted September 15, 2024 Author Posted September 15, 2024 You have a point. Thank you for your insight. 1 Quote

GuyIsDamGood Posted September 28, 2024 Author Posted September 28, 2024 How are you; JohnA? I have the Pre-outs on the Yamaha A-S2200 connected to the Rotel RB-1582 Mkii External Amplifier. (one of the reasons I've purchased this amplifier; is for it's ability to mute/Turn-Off the speakers) Sometimes I want to hear the music without hearing sub-bass. 1 Quote
the real Duke Spinner Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Yamaha makes equipment that may be a bit " cold" for Klipsch Depending on your taste The high distortion of Tubes I'd a fantastic match for the K product. 🙂 1 Quote

GuyIsDamGood Posted September 30, 2024 Author Posted September 30, 2024 When I listen to music with the Yamaha A-S2200 connected through it's Pre-outs to the Rotel RB-1582 Mkii then to the RF-7iiis (without any sub-bass). I mostly listen to Rock, R -n- B, Jazz, Indie and some old-school Hip-Hop. It sounds alright. (I haven't heard the RF-7iiis output from a tube-amp. . . . .yet. So I can't give an opinion. Quote
