Dumont
Since my Khorns acquisition my brother is now pining for better sound in his smaller listening room. I'm sure he'd like Klipsch but the price he's at is more like $1500 or less and something traditional looking, so I think that rules out Klipsch. I'm leaning toward having him audition either Wharfedale Lintons or....? I don;t know what. Initially I had the Magnepan LRS but he simply doesn't have room behind the speakers (at least not 2+ feet). Room is 11x14 Any other suggestions?
hanksjim1
Heresy would be a good fit for the room and budget wise...you might even be able to find a decent pair of used Fortes for that price.

Forte II can be had in excellent condition for around $1,200.00 and Heresy II for under $1,000.00 a pair.

Reber
Make sure you check Facebook marketplace too, that's where I find most of my deals. You can definitely find Klipsch heritage in that price range on there. you probably wanna look at Heresy I and II for under 1k, Fortes for 1.2K and than the Chorus would be in that 1.5 to 2 range. The KG series is even a really good budget option if he wants to wait to find a good deal on something nicer. I have a set of Khorns, KG4s and Heresy IIs. They are all nice but in a totally different way. I also wouldn't worry too much about oversizing with any of these smaller speakers. I think my room is like 16 x 12 and I have my Khorns in there and they work great. I would just remind him that the Khorns are a totally different animal than anything listed and to expect the sound to be different. It depends on where you're at in Iowa, but I would either wait till you find something near you that's a good deal or head to the nearest metro area to find something sooner. Again not sure where in Iowa you are, but if its the North west, Im in sioux falls and he can hear any of the options I have if he wants an idea on their sounds. Best of luck. I owned forte II for 35 years, another forum member has them now. I currently own forte IV. The heresy in most cases will require a sub for any decent lows. Whereas the forte has enough low end for music with no sub required. Even with movies they get by on their own, unless you are looking for subterranean bass. The forte needs to be placed 6-10 inches off the rear wall in order for the passive radiator to do its part.

nickyboy6100
Kg4’s are a great speaker for smaller rooms. You should be able to find a nice pair for around $300.
YK Thom
Another strategy for him to consider ( and one I used myself years ago and recommend) would be bookshelf/stand mounts. He can add a sub down the road. We are in something of a golden age for exceptional speakers of this type. A lot of great choices available including the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-600M II. They are exceptional and punch way above their price point.
Peter P.
I'm all in agreement with a used pair of Heresies; they certainly can be had within budget. I feel Fortes would be too large across either dimension. And yes; don't discount the kg series although they may not look as "traditional" as you might like, but you'd have to define traditional. kg 3's/3.2's/3.5's/4's/4.2/4.5s; they all have a smaller footprint with a full-size sound at a much cheaper price than used Heresies. Dumont
I definitely steered him toward the 600M IIs. I also suggested he demo some Wharfedale, just because they seem to get good reviews and they have the look he's interested in.

The 85th anniversary Denton model can be had well within his price range. Look great in walnut. The new KEFs are not lightweights either although they don't have the trad look he seems to favour. Ideally he should try to listen them all before pulling the pin.

So Ive suggested those three, all of which can be ordered from Crutchfield and returned.
Peter P.
I have to amend my earlier post. After some thought I decided the room would be too small for floorstanders, and have to agree the OP should be looking for some bookshelf speakers and a compatible subwoofer to fit the space. Now, if they still want that "traditional" look, they're going to have to prowl the secondary market for maybe some kg 2.2s or 1.2s and some stands. You could consider other brands besides Klipsch, but limit yourself to a 6.5" woofer as an 8" woofer might be too oversized visually for a stand mount. I suppose you could put 8" or maybe 10" woofer'ed speakers on the floor with tilted stands.
