Replacing my old Pioneer SX-3600

Recommended Posts

my old Pioneer SX-3600 need a recapping, was it worth it?

i need to replace it, with another receiver, but vintage stuff has skyrocket price? and new stuff, are puzzling me?

i found the Onkyo TX-8470, something that could be interesting, but, since there bankruptcy and buy back by sharp and Integra, are they still hifi choice? or just running on reputation from old time?

anyway, any suggestion to replace my amp, vintage; old or new? a receiver please!

thanks for helping

Hello fellow Canuck…

is it worth recapping a vintage receiver… you’ll get different opinions. The real question is, do you know a competent audio tech who can do the job right? If yes, then the piece can be brought back to former glory. I had a Luxman R-117 completely recapped including 4 power caps, all solder lines verified, new binding posts installed and factory set … cost $750 CAD. That was about 3 years ago, but I had access to the best audio tech in my area.

Others can comment re Onkyo. Myself, I’m a Denon person although I have left that world behind in favour of pre processor and power amps.

I suggest you look on Canada Audio Mart, depending on your budget a good used Denon x3600 or similar if you want a home theater receiver. If you just want a stereo receiver there have been a few Luxman that show up… again you might have to pay for a recap.

Best of luck!

Go bigger !!  80 wpc minimum...

Pioneer or Kenwood from the 1970s sounds luxurious.  🙂🙂🙂

Not really necessary, since Klipsch are so efficient. Even 20 watts or less is fine, imo. I do love vintage receivers too!
