So when ya read this grab ya a couple Heiny's and chill. The first, to start thunkin some more and get the game plan down. The second, to throw down on the way back to the bar to reload. 😂 Ain't your first rodeo. Then it's back to the grind. Yea, send all that rain ya want. Could use it around here. Hope everyone else in the path is good to go. 2
YK Thom
Haven't been on the forum this week, I hope all you guys made out OK in the end. We saw quite a bit about it up here on the news. I've never experienced a hurricane.
Marvel
Talked to Josh (Invidiosulus), and their downtown got seriously flooded. Their house is ok, small leak around the chimney, etc. However, the whole town is without water/power and cell service. He drove out to where he had cell service so he could call and let me know. Since more of the heavily populated parts of NC are even worse off, it may be a while till all the services are back. They may be packing up and coming over to Chattanooga to stay with us for a while.

Lots of rain the past several days, it is noisy right now. As long as the system doesn't stall it'll be fine. If it is gusts in the 40s at the airport in town it might be + 10mph here from what I've observed the past year. @billybob1 looks like your town got hit with some pretty bad surge. Saw a video of houses banging into each other. Pray it wasn't in your neighborhood! Yes, not mine fortunately John. Took out 1 bar but, not the other liquor store. It got abit flooded though. Thanks man, Sorry couldn't talk much but, battery don't you know. 3 canes in this area 1 last year and 2 this year. Figure dang fortunate. Jogged east toward us.
JohnJ
I know about the others too, miss what I had in FL a while back sometimes so I keep track of it a little! Guess that means the post office, wally-world and the churches are alright also if you've made it that far down the list. We've heard from @Marvel about his family so hope those guys end up well also when they get back. Spent a couple nights in Cherokee last year, hours or more SouthWest of there. An afternoon T-storm had their pretty little downtown flooded quickly so it had not been dry there. Mountainous terrain fares pretty bad with a lot dumped quickly. Those `hoods were the only ones priced in my range in several towns!
Ceptorman
The death toll is up to 45. Prayers for a speedy recovery from all of this.
Dave1291
Thanks for the rain @billybob1 it helped up here if that's any consolation. Just be a pacesetter like me. It'll ALWAYS sort. Just keep the Heine's cold and handy. Stay safe! 1
JohnJ
Found out yesterday about all the twisters around here Friday. It sure was some noisy rain. This evening was the closest, up at the "crossroads" is what I've always called the main intersection of a small berg. I'll find out in the morning if the grocer is open, news is hard to find except for the nearby cities. Might not ever get used to super-small town living... I'm here for the duration anyhow!
Marvel
Got this from Josh: I made it out of the mountains to Johnson City TN to pick up some supplies. We are okay so far and have food and water and thankfully our house was not damaged by Helene. I don’t currently have internet access in town(Spruce Pine) or access to FB messenger. I can go out by the blue ridge parkway and get cell service and send/receive text messages but the connection is to weak to load any other data. I will try to update as I can. ❤️
JohnJ
Good to hear they are alright, hope they can get back to normal quickly! Store was still there, did not go to any other areas around there so didn't see any damage like I did on the 15 minute ride over there. It was all trees, lots of deadwood cleared out, my creek did go a few feet higher but the culvert handled it and our only neighborhood exit is good. Me? I hope 2025 is better, I'm looking forward to it already!
Dave1291
@JohnJ relax cause you're not going anywhere unless that lake up behind you decides to overflow. Blah, nuttin better than takin a ride in a brick house a couple hundred yards down hill in the middle of the night.

JohnJ
More: Appears that Spruce Pine has something the entire world wants. It's quartz, not just any quartz either. The entire economic picture could be affected. https://x.com/emollick/status/1766504587781878196
Invidiosulus
Yep, we are known for our quartz mining operations. we have a working stoplight near the house so power is on its way into town. Supplies are being brought in so things are okay. there are still lots(hundreds maybe) of people unaccounted for after the flooding in our county alone. lots of people doing a lot of good in the area, and a few bad actors looting and trying to steal stuff. overall we are doing fine all things considered. i spent most of the day cutting a friends camper out from under a large poplar that came down in the storm. I’ll check in when I can. 1

Invidiosulus
Things are still okay. Still no water or power. we just got a load of supplies from folks at our church. They are working on getting us a generator as well.
Schu
Another failed FEMA response.. FEMA's most powerful and far reaching ability is not to help with disasters... it's strongest influence is to suspend The Rights of it's Citizens. 1

Learn lessons and work together to make systems work. That's my non-political view and donate to reputable charities to help people out. {NOTE: I agree FEMA isn't perfect and think it's important to fund and staff it efficiently.}
