I hope I am posting in the correct forum. I just picked up my first pair of Klipsch Heresy. I am currently running them off an NAD 778 avr. I also have 2 rel subs. I have been offered a good deal on some older Klipsch Chorus. The question is, with Dirac live and the two subs, will the Heresys get close to the performance of the Chorus?

i assume we're talking about chorus 1, not chorus 2 (the chorus 2 have a passive radiator on the back).  i have owned heresy 1, heresy 1.5, and chorus 1 (and cornwall 1).  based on my experience,  the price of the chorus 1 is about double that of a heresy 1.5.

the chorus 1, in my opinion, is a wonderful speaker.  it's physically huge and the soundstage it puts out is huge.  the chorus 1 has the classic heritage bass -- powerful and snappy -- not boomy.  i'm not a subwoofer expert, but i don't think the subs will get you to the sound of the chorus 1 -- the subs may fill in the low end, but i not sure they'll give you the scale of the chorus 1.  if you've got the space, i'd go with the chorus 1.

Depends what you are looking for. For me Heresy 1 and 1.5 have more real/true midrange and highs. So bettween those two I would choose Cornwall 1.

You're talking about the difference between a sealed speaker with 2 subwoofers of unknown design (sealed, ported, or vented)

and a standalone speaker with either two ports or a passive radiator.

That's a lot of variables to affect the low end sound, and your preferences.

If your REL subwoofers have front ports I imagine they'll sound very close to a Chorus I, as there are even differences between

front ported and rear ported speakers.

just a couple of clarifications -- the OP is asking between Heresy 1.5 and Chorus (1 vs 2 not specified).  he's not considering cornwalls.  also, the chorus 1 does not have a passive radiator, but the chorus 2 does.

@CWOReilly -- i agree!

Wow. Thanks for all the responses. I think I am gunna mess with these for a while. My other speakers are a pair of revel 226be, completely different sound.. Gunna give myself some time with the klipsch to get used to the sound. These are the firs klipsch other than the rp-500m's I have ever owned. Really appreciate you guys

@beanman3, just reading all this now. You say you have a line on a “good deal” for a pair of Chorus(es)?

If you like the Heresys, you will love the Chorus.

My humble suggestion is to buy the Chorus and sell whichever pair you least prefer after comparing them, apples to apples, in your own home for a few weeks. Try to resist the urge to upgrade until you’ve at least hashed out which are the keepers.

Maybe, but it does not mean we cannot suggest it. Cornwall has sound character same as Heresy on midrange and top but with much better bottom part. Chorus is another cup of tea. Probably would win with Cornwall in bottom part but at least for me Cornwall 1/1.5 overally is much better and well balanced speaker and if someone likes Heresy then he will love Cornwall.
