TVizzle Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 (edited) I just bougt a second R-121SW. So with two subs now, what settings should I have on each???... gain/volume? hz/crossover? phase, 0 or 180? Use a single audio cable on lfe, or a rca-y splitter? Thanks in advance Tony Edited November 4, 2024 by TVizzle 1 Quote

Peter P. Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 The gain/volume is set to your taste. The crossover is set to match your main speakers. If you are using an A/V receiver, it should have subwoofer and speaker setup options where you specify your speakers are LARGE or SMALL. The receiver's manual will tell you what the cutoff for those speakers will be set to. You can then either set the receiver to send the subwoofer a signal with the same "cutoff" frequency such as say, 80Hz, 120Hz, etc., and set the subwoofer's crossover to the highest setting, or vice versa; the receiver sends a full range signal to the subwoofer and you adjust the crossover on the subwoofer itself by ear, usually to correspond to the specs the manufacturer lists for your main speakers. I've never used the phase control and can't hear a difference when I try. I leave it at zero. Try it and see if you prefer one setting over another. If not, leave it at zero. If your receiver doesn't have dual subwoofer outputs then yes; use a splitter to send the LFE/subwoofer output to each subwoofer connecting to the LFE input on the subs. Few receivers/amplifiers have dual RCA outputs to connect to a subwoofer so I wouldn't bother considering that option. Quote
TVizzle Posted November 5, 2024 Author Posted November 5, 2024 (edited) Fronts are old school ascend. My integra dtr 30.6, again old school, but has 2 sub ports (purple). So I could use a rca-y splitter. Please see attachments. Thanks Edited November 5, 2024 by TVizzle 1 Quote
billybob1 Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 Unless deceiving, it appears you have a set of sub out so, would try that and refer to your manual as, the menu may have indication of other. Quote
TVizzle Posted November 5, 2024 Author Posted November 5, 2024 (edited) I have them both connected with a rca-y cable to both inputs on receiver right now. One single input on receiver (2 subs) and left and right on sub. It sounds good but I'm just wondering if I should use just the left lfe or both left and right on the subs. And what baseline settings I should try. Like my first post, where to set gain, hz and 0 or 180 phase on both or 1 on 0 and 1 on 180?? Edited November 5, 2024 by TVizzle Quote
TVizzle Posted November 6, 2024 Author Posted November 6, 2024 Schu, thank you. I never thought about that. Good point. 😆 Quote

Rule of thumb is if both your subs are placed at the front of the room, set the phase on each to 0. If one is in front and one in back set the front to 0 and back to 180. Quote
