Birthday Headphones

Recommended Posts

Hi it is almost my birthday and I want to know some good sets of headphones for a music lover like myself. I love good audio and never really had a nice to decent pair of headphone just some 70$ jbl’s. I would love some recommendations from a max price point of about 500$ and lower to around 250$. Hope it’s ok to talk about other brands because I’m not strictly just looking for a pair of klipsch ones. I love the klipsch sound by I also like pretty much any other brand I’m sure. Never really heard klipsch headphone. and bass is important to me but so is every other aspect of audio treble mids etc. I appreciate it guys. I’m looking for any brands and models that really stand out thanks guys hope you can help.

Lots of folks like the Sennheiser headphones...multiple models in your price range.  What are you going to use for amp?

I do not want to have to use an amp. I have a sound system

at home and will

isee the headphone on the road, walks stuff like that where an amp would

not be possible.

I can't listen to anything except Focal because their sound signature is just 'Right'... and I have tried many. you may find a pair of lower end Focal's on the secondary market for the pricing you are will to spend.

I have the same feeling about my Stax headphones...I would mention them, but I don't think the good ones are in his budget and certainly not suitable for portable listening...LOL

Do you need an amp to power them? What are some good models that aren’t crazy expensive I would be willing to pay up 500 perhaps maybe even more it just depends.

How are the celeste? I hear you can run them with an iPhone but would be best with an amp. Is this true? Also are there any moderately-cheap priced portable amp/dac you could recommend. I really don’t need anything crazy just want some nice headphones to cruise the world with. I love high quality audio but not trying to go crazy here.

I think I’m more willing to spend around 1k. And I am very interested in the focal brand for my headphone choice. I will be buying them when they have the best sales to offer for either black fields or cyber Monday not sure will be best, ehat do you think? Also please get back to me when you have a chance of what are the best Models you’d recommend of focal brand and or some small portable amps that I could

pair with it.

Over the ear, or in ear. Big difference here in both sound and comfort levels.

I mostly use IEM's for music, both Klipsch x20i and Sennheiser ie800s.

My over the ears are Sennheiser 650's - which I mostly use for Movies.

Comfort is important. No point in buying something that sounds marginally better than something else if you can't keep them on your ears for longer than 20 minutes.

May I ask how you are planning on using them?

Mobile or home?

Both but mainly Mobil.

Sennheiser HD660S2. On sale now for $450

Thanks for your recommendation but I am seriously looking at the Celeste focal headphones. I’m just wondering what a good portable amp I should get to get with it. Or if it’s even necessary.

Yeah I will use them both but probably on the move more. I hear the Celeste can be powered by an iPhone I think which I will probably just do that on the move. And possibly a something along the line of 300 or less$ amp/dac to get the most out of them at home. Any good recommendations? And how do you feel about the Celeste?

Celeste is great... the entire line by Focal is awesome and they all share the signature Focal sound, which is one of the delta sounds in headphones.

consider also the Bathys if you want a powered and bluetooth over ear.

What do you mean they’re powered? I see that they’re noise canceling and I do not think I care for that ability. Do I need to get a separate amp to power the Celeste or could my iPhone do the job?

It says the Celeste can be powered by my iPhone. How much of a difference will it make to get a similar priced power amp for the headphones compared to just using my iPhone? Will it still sound great with powering it with my iPhone or like how much % will I get out of them with just my iPhone? Also do you know of any dac/power amps for the celeste that are good or decent for about the same price as the headphones?

the bathys can also be powered by your phone via direct connection/wired. they can also be used WIRELESS/bluetooth... so they have there own power, ergo - 'powered'.

fyi, the Bathys DO NOT need to be used with the noise cancellation initiated. N.C. can be turned off, which is how I use them.

the PLUS for the bathys over the celeste is that they are powered and can be used wirelessly if that is important to you... for me it is a great convenience.

The Bathys is also slightly cheaper by a couple hundred dollars... but the Celeste is a slightly better headphone.
