Got a chance to buy one of these for 200, wonder if any of you have experience with them?  Good/bad, issues to look out for?

Thanks,

They're nice little amplifiers only down side I can see is their age at this point at over 30 years old might have some reliability issues down the road. Then it becomes a question of do I spend hundreds of dollars to get a $200 amp refurbished?

a valid point well taken.    I don't want to consider what Ive dropped in amps and speaker rebuild of late, has be close to 1000- may have been better spent on a new piece.

Just today, I switched out my Carver set (TFM-15CB) for a vintage Oinkers I have.  The Carver is a nice set but something was missing.  The Onkyo dances circles around the Carver set.  So much so, I am now on the hunt for an M-504!

LaScalas don’t need an M504, but they sure sound good with one!

Used a tfm-15cb for quite a while with LS. Sounded great. Had a couple of them. As stated, they are pretty old now and started wearing out.
I would advise finding something else. They  were good in their day.

😃 ...it's here - and yes, they sure sound good with one

May be an image of speaker and text that says 'S M-504'

yep--- and therein lies the dilemma. Tired of dropping money on older stuff thinking its better than finding it has its own issues.    At a crossroads here for sure.

Update:  Like the sound of the carver a lot but still, it sounded distorted running via a NAD 1300 pre amp.

Swapped in a Cambridge audio AXR 100 and it cleaned right up.

Pulled the trigger on a crown XLi1500 amp and plugged my wiim pro direct to the input. clean again.

Pre amp...  huh...

Sounds like you are happy and now have 2 new amps, enjoy.  I had a Carver cube amp and loved it.

Yes, happy for now...   who knows tho...!

so right now i have a bad NAD 2600 amp suspect NAD 1300 pre amp, and the Carver. Gonna stash them and get to repairing them someday.    Called a number of suggested people who can do this work and they are all booked out YEARS in advance.    I mean,   its already broken...

I A/B auditioned a $5000 McIntosh MC275 for sale against my $400 Carver M4.0t on a set of Klipschorns also for sale. Both on a vintage Marantz pre-amp.

I could not hear any difference, and the owner had to admit the same. I took the Klipschorns and my Carver home.

Check out Nelion Audio. He currently is advertising 4-6 weeks out + 2 weeks for the refurb. My experience has been shorter than his quoted lead times.

He did 2 M4-0t's, a M1.0t and M1.5t for me.

Thanks for the tip- the carver and the NAD combo are both sold off now.
