Inherited these and wondering which amp to try with the Klipschorns

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am new here.  I have inherited 2 of what I think are the Klipschorn speakers although I know nothing about them.  I have included a picture of the tag to see what you guys think of the speakers.

My question is this, I also inherited a garage full of amps, receivers, speakers, turntables, etc... I have taken a picture of some of the more interesting amps and receivers and am wondering which one you think might be best of the lot to hook up to the Klipschorns.  I will be getting which ever amp/reciever you think is best cleaned and serviced by a professional before I plug it in as well as the same with the speakers.

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Here is the link to the photos:

Thank you.

Link to photos of amps - thank you

Welcome, Yes, those are Klipschorn, model C, Fir Raw.  It looks like you may have some decent stuff, I only recognize the Fisher and H.H. Scott name, but that doesn't mean much.  Those other components (the 2a3) may be outstanding products, but will take more knowledgeable people to help identify.  I would recommend anything with tubes be brought up on a variac and have a qualified tech go through them. I would also suggest that you request a mod to have this moved to the 2 channel section as you may get more traction there.  Also, I would start a post in the tube section in regards to the specific tube components.   I think once you get everything set up and working correctly, you will be in for a real treat.

Welcome....you have some fine equipment there, and The Dude gave you some good advice on the tube amps. Was anything connected to the Khorns?

Hi Bill, New Braunfels!  I just sold a house there about 4 months ago.  Great area.

No, there was nothing hooked up to the speakers.  They and two other sets of Klipsch speakers are just sitting in the family room not hooked up to anything.

Which amp is best, you have quite a journey ahead.  Looks like you have a lot nice vintage gear that appears to have been taken care of.  Tube or SS amps should be checked out by a tech.  A SS amps is easier to get up and going.  Enjoy the speakers and amps.

Welcome aboard!

Having had a pair of nice 2a3 monobocks, I tried following up on the Sun SV 2A3 amps.

Sun is a Japanese company and has high quality parts. One review was very good, while the other sounded pretty snobbish and didn't like them much at all. That being said, that amp uses the 2a3 tube, in a single ended configuration, meaning it has around 3.5 watts output per side. They can sound glorious, but have their limits. Definitely have them checked over by someome who knows how to work on them.

Prices for used ones run $500 and up. I think new they were over $2k. They still sell them but no prices on their website that I could find.

I love the collection of tuners, the multiplexer looks new. Also thinking there are a pair of Heresy that would go great with the Pioneer receiver. All of that equipment is old enough and nice enough - have them checked out before plugging them in. You have a real treasure trove there. Lots of good advice above, enjoy the ride.

That Scott 335 is an adaptor made to go with one of their Mono FM receivers and convert the signal to stereo.  I might have to make you an offer on that thing.
Get the Fisher up and running, plug it into the K-Horns, enjoy.  Classic setup.
