Gnomore
Where is the best place to mount my SS-1's in a 16x18 room where the couch is on the back wall? The Ceiling is 9 ft. Thanks!
Craig6519
The best position is about 6 feet, about 2 to 3 feet above ear level when sittng down and If possible directly to both sides of the couch. Gnomore
Thanks for the replay.. The last question I have is if the couch is on the real wall, how far do I place the surrounds from the rear wall?
Guest BobG
It is really tough to get good results with any kind of surrounds when your listening seat is up against the rear wall. There is no "behind" you to work with. Best bet is either directly to your sides at 4-7 feet off the ground. You might also wish to try moving that couch a foot forward and putting the speakers on the ground, at either end of the couch and between the couch and the wall. Point the speakers up. Now, try moving that couch 6' forward. Some day when you can mess with furniture without getting in trouble. Put the speakers 6' off the ground and about even with you or a couple of feet behind you on the side walls. You can also go with rear wall placement. The experiment will show you what it can sound like. Then the arguing can begin...LOL
kleggatt
I have my couch up against the rear wall as well. I just mounted the surrounds about 6' up and just a bit wider than the couch apart. Sounds great, I get the feeling that action is happening behind me.
