FruitFlan
It doesn't have BNC connectors. That is why the G500 is superior by far.
fawwaz
Well I am not sure about the BNC conncectors ,never used them and don't know where they go in a monitor. but the I didn't find anything different from the E500 and G500 except the 65Hz to 75Hz refresh at max. resolution @1600X1200 the same 85Hz check the G500 specs: nothing about connectors(what are they exactly do they make such a difference?) : http://www.ubid.com/actn/opn/4806931.asp ------------------ AL-FAWWAZ
fawwaz
ok so CPDE500 is an entrprise edition , damn even Sony can't tell the difference they sent specs that look the same check this: From SONY : Among the few differences between the models in your inquiry, of chief impact is the SONY marketing division which sells the product. Our CPD-E series are our business "Enterprise" editions, while our CPD-G series are designed and marketed towards high end "Graphic" users. Often there is little difference apart from the model ID itself. You may review the product specs for each model below: NOTE: As the CPD-E500 is marketed through our Corporate Enterprise Division, only limited information is available through the Consumer Support Department. Kid Death
I happen to have the Sony G500. I love this monitor. It has 2 inputs in the back. There's the standard HD15 and the BNC. I use the BNC connectors as they give, in my opinion, a more clear and more crisp picture. What's even more greater is that you can select between the two inputs on-the-fly. So, let's say, if you wanted to hook up a Sega Dreamcast or Sony Playstation2, or another PC for that matter, on said monitor via the HD15 input you can easily switch back and forth. pochacco20
Kid Death... that sounds super sweet! What do you do to switch back and forth? Is there a button on the front panel or something or does it require you to connect the keyboard to the monitor? I hope it's just a button that you can quickly press to switch and not some osd menu that you have to tediously go through. Anyway have you compared your display to a decent 18" LCD? I'm debating whether or not to go LCD now. I can't go both... just way too expensive for my blood. -poch
deaf guy
whoa cool say you wanted to connect a console how would you do that? i have a g400 is connecting a console possible with my monitor? ------------------ bass beats melody
daytontp
If you look at the G500 specs on Sony's website, there is a switch called a "Slider Input Selector". I am assuming this is how you change the input source. Dayton
VIV
Heh, I'm going with the Samsung 1200NF. 22" of pure Sony arse kicking greatness Its cheaper, looks better, has 5 BNC connectors, built in USB hub, heh, can't lose. From reviews I've gotten from 3dgameman.com (I talked to the game man himself), and even he claims the 1200NF to be superior to all 21" Sonys. Kid Death
There is a slider in the front of the monitor. All you have to do to switch between the two is move the slider accordingly. Simple.

I have the 19" version of that monitor, and I can tell you that the NF series is a great choice. But I'd take a look at both the 1200 NF and the SOny competetor, quality is all taste and opinion, different people like different things. Hipnotic_Tranz
How do you hook up your monitor via BNC? I have one capable of this, but never knew how. I've always heard it is clearer and would love to try it.....
VIV
You need a BNC cable that has the appropriate # of BNC connectors on one end, and a regular 15 pin VGA connector on the other. BNC is SUPPOSED to help out at higher resolutions
FruitFlan
I use BNC with my 21" G500, and it helps tremendously at high resolution. Well worth it.

Does it just help out with clarity or what? my monitor can go up to 1920x1440 (not like I'd ever go that high) but in games like Quake2 I run at 1600x1200 and original GLQuake I run at 1280x1024. Think it would help much there? My desktop runs at 1280x1024...how much does a cable like this cost? Can you just run down to a local computer shop and they'll have 'em or will it be one of those things I'll have to search the net for? FruitFlan
They aren't that hard to find, you should find them at a Best Buy or radio shack. Give them a call first and make sure they know what you want, because BNC can refer to network cabling connectors. It does help out with clarity. I couldn't use any resolution over 1280x1024@85hz since it was fuzzy , BNC has higher bandwidth and now I can run at 2048x1536 crystal clear sharp text. THis should probably help in games too, at high res. Colors are slightly more vibrant too.
