I got some K-horns!!!

I have been hunting for a pair of K-horns for quite some time, looking for the right combo of location (close enough to drive to pick-up) and price (LOL).

I have talked to folks in California, Texas, Arkansas (nearly driveable), and Tennessee (certainly driveable but way too much $$).

I happened to have a few minutes to kill on my lunch hour the other day and I happened to go into a local high-end hi-fi store (I had been there once before but they ignored me...no "howdy do" or "can I help you" (maybe 'cause I was wearing a Klipsch tee shirt?Smile.gif).

Lo and Beloldcwm19.gif a pair of K-horns!!! 1978 models in Rosewood!! Beautiful!!

"These babies are expensive" the owner told me, "Rosewood doubles their blue book value".

Well to make a long story short (yea, right my wife would say...too late) we came to a deal and they are coming home next Tuesday!

Finally found them ~3 miles from my home!

Now to build a false corner or enclose one of the cabinets...

Wow Edster! Khorns in Rosewood! I am truly jealous, someday I will trade up to some Khorns from my Belle's if I kind find them in my area and for the right price as you did. I am more than certain you will enjoy!

The Ht room at Klipsch has the Horns in Rosewood and they are beautiful. If that's the store in Atlanta that I've been to,they don't think much of Klipsch.Well except for charging you for them. They had a price book too.

Same type story here; One Sunday night I looked at the Market spot on audioreview site and found a pair of 1977 K-Horns for CHEAP($1000 obo)I almost didn't look there. The post had been there since Friday before! The very next Friday my wife and I were on our way to get them,6 hrs round trip.

I'm real happy for ya!!!!!cwm35.gif

I too wanna say congrats Ed. From the first time I heard a pair of Klipschorns, I have always had this notion of one day owning a pair and I'm sure it will happen. For now, I'm building for the future and if gpstrackman and I can strike a deal, a pair of Cornwalls will join my Heresy's. After that, the only missing piece of my HT puzzle will be a pair of K-Horns.

The K-horns are being delivered tomorrow evening. I will be taking photos to share. They do have a couple of dings in the front, the horizontal strips on the top end.

Do you think I will be able to find some Rosewood veneer to replace the dinged up areas? Maybe I need to call Klipsch...

Ed, more likely you should have it done by a restoration specialist with access to a variety of rosewood hues and graining. It sounds like a relatively easy fix for someone who knows how and has the right stuff. I would still call Klipsch and see what they say... but likely close matching will make a great difference in the finished job. They are no doubt your ear treasure too long in coming. Celebrate them as eye treasures as well! cwm27.gif HornEd

I found my horns on www.audioreview.com. They were listed for $1700 firm. I offered $1500. and got them. Had to rent a small truck and drive about 1 and a half hours into Mass. They are great. I'd love to see them in Rosewood. Mine look great in walnut but Rosewood must be spectacular. I had 2 very small dings which I filled with some walnut filler that can in a small tin ...virtually unnoticable even when I put the track spotlight up full on the Khorns. Welcome to the club!

Well I moved my K-horns into their new home last evening. I spent a few hours listening to them and they are just awesome. Sooo much more bass than the Belles, and I don't have them in good corners. Each speaker has one side open until I am able to finish off the basement. I find it hard to believe the bass can improve much but I have been told that it will. Incredible. Here are a couple of photos. I am kind of surprised that they don't match better (the wood grain), but I am not complaining Wink.gif!

Congrats on a beautiful pair of speakers. All these great comments about Horns makes me want a pair, but there is no way I could get them to work in the current house. Maybe some day, when I have the time and money...

BTW, were those your Forte IIs on eBay last week? They were in beautiful shape, and if I had room in my current HT system, I'd have bid on those. The thought of having 4 Forte IIs is quite impressive. Again, maybe in my next location.

jhawk,

Yep those were mine. I picked them up from my former next-door neighbor when he moved Smile.gif.

Thanks all for the nice comments about the Khorns, I fell asleep last night listening to 'em. My wife came downstairs to see what I was doing down there so late and she woke me up to go to bed! Wink.gif

jhawk - For a very brief moment in time, I'll approach HornEd nirvana. This weekend I'm going to heat up 2 Chorus, an Academy and 4 Forte's in my HT. Then, somethings gonna have to go on the auction block... Frown.gif
