Rope caulking Forte's?

Recommended Posts

O.K. I just got my Forte' 1's crossovers modified by DeanG. Should I rope caulk the horns, and or use dampening material, what kind? I did a search for past posts, but my brain is now hurting. Where do I find instructions on how to do so? and is it really worth the effort.

Thanks so very much for all and any help.

Cheers,

Robert

Really subjective comment.

i thought about doing this for a while.

I was concerned about the same result a low volume.

But with over 25 watts of nasty rock and roll they could be better.

I do not like my Chorus IIs too loud.

I think haveing the cosoover in the cabinet at high volumes is a detriment.

I don't have Fortes, but do have Cornwalls and I did some rope caulking on the squawker. I didn't do all of it, I thought it took away some of the sound. With three different amps, I have found that the amount of rope caulk from the magnet towards the mouth of the horn varied from 2 - 4" on the squawker. You may have to try a few combinations.

Why would you need to caulk a plastic/composite horn it certainly is not going to ring? No damping required here folks!

It may not ring in the sense of a metal horn; but at higher SPL it would be inferred it would resonate.

Either from the mid itself or from the woofer backwave.
