7591's glowing blue?

I spent the whole day listening to my system yesterday, the first time in forever. It sounded great but when I went to shut the amp off the Scott 233 I noticed all the tubes had a blue glow towards the back of the amp. I didn't notice a change in the sound, but I always thought that blue tubes were going bad. The tubes by the way are westinghouse double getters. Should I start looking for new tubes?

If you get a white, pink, and purplish glow collecting around the Mica spacers at the bottom of the plates, then that may mean the tube is getting gassy.

Cathode to heater short won't be far behind.

You have to look from the top of the TJ 300B to see if the filaments are even on, even in the dark. No light show here.

Good sound to me though...

Anybody into Thrash(dunno why I'm posting this here...), may wanna pick up Slayer's "Still Reigning" DVD.

I picked it up for 11 bucks. So thinking when I get home and listen and watch it, that the recording will be all hiked up and harsh as hell.

And the poor 300B amp would spit and hiss it all out.

The DVD is recorded rather well IMO, the 300B amp seemed to pump out Jeff and Kerry's guitars nicely. With the SVS subwoofers at 40 Hz, Dave was right there too.....

I enjoyed it. whatever......

The blue glow is not a problem. To a degree it is visible in most high voltage tubes especially large ST shaped triodes. Enjoy the show!

These are the RCA 2A3s in my Wright amps:

Rick, use a tripod, the results are much better!2.gif

KT88s glow with a blue florescence (as well as my 300Bs)...

One of my Shuguang 300BC graphite anode output tube's blue glow even flickers a little with the beat of the music...if it wasn't so damn hot standing over them while it's on, I'd almost enjoy the light show it produces!10.gif

As one of my favorite colors is blue, I have always looked for it in tubes. Some have said it's a problem - I believe they are looking to sell tubes.

On 1 of my McIntosh 240s the blackplate 6L6gcs have the nice tube glow plus they will have a blue glow. On my MC-60s they will also have the blue glow.

All tubes have been tested with nothing wrong. Enjoy the glow.
