Marvel Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 This may be old hat for everyone here, but I stumbled on this yesterday. NOT affiliated with "Handwound". They have a 2A3 amp for $625 (stereo!!). Has amyone had any experience with these guys? 2A3 amp Oh, Merry Christmas to all! Marvel Quote
edwinr Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 If you want that magical midrange, then the 2A3 is the way to go. The TNT review suggested 95 to 97 db sensitvity, so your Heresys will be suitable. As long as you can accept that there will be a limit on the loudness you'll get. The price is right. And the TNT review was positive. Looks promising. Quote
Marvel Posted December 26, 2004 Author Posted December 26, 2004 It does say no units available on the page. Still, the price is lower than a lot of those Chinese/HK EL34 amps. I may give them a call just to see what's up. Not that I have the money right now. The Dynaco was sounding sweet, but one of the output tubes (all original EL34) dropped dead over the past week. I have more on order, but they won't arrive for a while yet. Back to SS. Marvel Quote
jt1stcav Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 Also for your consideration, BEZ by Edmund Lam also builds an affordable, hand-made, point-to-point wired 2A3 SET stereo amp (Model T3A-2) for about $450 on eBay (see "zagger1" for his auctions). Quote
Marvel Posted December 26, 2004 Author Posted December 26, 2004 And classier too Jim. It would just be nice to get one from someone IN the U.S. Unless I lived in Australia. I know the BEZ stuff gets pretty good reviews, and you have been satisfied with yours. Marvel Quote
edwinr Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 Wot's this. Someone having a dig at Australia! Quote
Marvel Posted December 26, 2004 Author Posted December 26, 2004 The one thing I could dig in Australia is opals! Since most of the U.S. got hit with a huge smowstorm this past week I could enjoy some heat. How about that huge earthquake? Looks awful, withgreat loss of life. Marvel Quote

dodger Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 That BEZ is a VERY nice looking unit. Anyone familiar with sound? dodger Quote
Erik Mandaville Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 The BEZ equipment looks amazingly good for such a modest price. I've seen some examples of the wiring on ebay auctions, and I just don't understand how this fellow can let those things go for so little. They really look nice! From what Jim has said about them, they sound great, too. Quote
edwinr Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 ---------------- How about that huge earthquake? Looks awful, withgreat loss of life. Marvel ---------------- What a tragedy. It looks like over 11,000 people lost their lives now... Hey, Dodger. Thanks for the backup buddy. Like any good partner, you're there with the donuts! Quote
edwinr Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 That T3A-2 looks like a good 'un, Jim. The price is very attractive. What do you reckon, Marvel? Quote
jt1stcav Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 I've only heard BEZ's 300B (my own). It is tube rectified (5U4G) if that means anything. And if you had Erik Mandaville upgrade the trannies and caps with Hammond and Solen, etc., and drop in a few NOS RCA 2A3s...well, who knows. It might even sound as good (or better) than Wright's WPA 3.5 monoblocks! Quote

Marvel Posted December 26, 2004 Author Posted December 26, 2004 I can't find any of his amps on ebay right now. Was that a current item he had listed? Marvel Quote
jt1stcav Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 Here's BEZ's current auctions (no 2A3 listed at present, but do a Completed Listings search to find one that recently sold): http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQgotopageZ1QQsassZzagger1QQsorecordsperpageZ25QQsosortpropertyZ1QQsspagenameZSTRKQ3aMEFSQ3aMESOI Quote
Marvel Posted December 26, 2004 Author Posted December 26, 2004 Thanks Jim. I may just have to send him an email when I get some cash in hand. Marvel Quote
seti Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 I exchanged emails with Edmund this week I was asking if he makes a phono preamp and I figured since his 6SN7 preamp is under $300 that his phono pre couldn't be much more. "there is four 12AX7 phono stage for sale" Edmund I just ordered a NAD PP2 to get me by on vinyl but I sure would order his tube phono if he would get back with me regarding price. Quote
DeanG Crossovers Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 "...if you had Erik Mandaville upgrade the trannies and caps with Hammond and Solen, etc..." Kind of scary when Hammond and Solen are "upgrades". Quote
