mopar dave Posted February 2, 2005 Share Posted February 2, 2005 i think i may have a blown tweeter on one of the cornwalls. it sounds fine at low to mid levels, but when i twist the volume up above that (100db) it distorts. i'v blown tweeters before and they quit working completely, this ones alittle different. i also tried swaping the amp tubes from one side to the other, rebiasing and had the same results. what do ya think, blown tweeter or another problem? dave Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
dodger Posted February 2, 2005 Share Posted February 2, 2005 Try changing your Left and Right cables, see if it follows. If it were another amp problem, switching output tubes would have no effect. Klipschguy Posted February 2, 2005 Share Posted February 2, 2005 Make sure your tweeter cap is not shorted as a full range signal will be sent to your tweeter, which can definitely cause a tweeter to distort at high levels. D-MAN Posted February 2, 2005 Share Posted February 2, 2005 Andy, that does sound like a blown diapragm, BUT: Double check the wiring first, because a bad or oxidized connection (xover-tweeter wire) also acts and sounds exactly the same way. pdubay Posted February 2, 2005 Share Posted February 2, 2005 I had the same problem with my Forte's and found the voice coils in the horns blown. At the time when Klipsch owners were like Harley Owners, I was given a set of voice coils for free. Recently my wife fried the coils again and when I went to the local audio shop they were ready to charge me $30 each coil. mopar dave Posted February 5, 2005 Author Share Posted February 5, 2005 thanks guys, i think klipchguy may have been right on this one. pulled the back off speaker and noticed that the caps had come loose from the crossover board, the glue did'nt hold. the soilder joints may have been touching on hard bass notes. changed the tweeter while back was off. problem went away. jammin again. dave Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
