Other than SETH, what DIY amps projects are out there?

I'm thinking of building a SETH amp. I know the SETH design is simple and not audio perfection, but I want the experience of building a relatively simple tube amp that might later be reworked.

Before I invest the time, I would be interested in any feedback (pun intended) regarding the SETH amp. If anyone has experience with similar DIY projects, Id welcome that knowledge.

For information on the SETH I would stroll over here http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/magnequest/bbs.html

Bottlehead kits are ultra simple and less expensive to build but very limited in the power output. The SETH should be a very nice amplifier not needing any upgrades if you use the designers recipe.

One of these days I want to build a Seth myself. Dr Jeff's designs have a great reputation.

If you would like to build a 300B SET amp, there is the JELabs design at Angela Instruments.. I like this circuit better myself:

I have changed the PS caps a bit to stiffen the bass.

These are not kits, and not for the timid but do sound very nice when properly done.

Welborne Labs DRDs are kits with better iron than Bottleheads but cost more.

It's all good!! 3.gif

To my knowledge, there is only one other guy that have finished building his Seth. You can reach him through the MQ forum probably. His moniker is Mrclassicman.

As for upgradabilty of this desing, I think there are two interesting avenues down the road.

First is to implement an adjustable bias scheme for the tubes (there where plenty of discussion about this on the MQ forum).

Second would be to design another driver stage with a lower impedance than what I initially designed.

Other design I like (for a beginner in mind) can be found here:
