mdbrien
Hi, I'm looking at buying an Aragon Aurum Preamp which has the balanced XLR outputs. Can someone tell me if it would be much difference in performance if I use them or not. Thanks,
yaffstone
XLR is used professionally for more robust noise rejection, typically in long low level signal paths such as mic cords. If the ambiant electrical noise is high in your environment you may see a reduction in humm or hiss by using XLR. In a typical home environment I doubt you will see a difference. I've never tried it though.
jheis
My philosophy is to maximize what is available to you. That said, there is no need to spend exorbitant amounts for esoteric cables. If you can solder, the connectors and the wire are available at sources such as parts-express.com at very reasonable prices. James
PrestonTom
I certainly agree with the above replies. As a word of caution however, you can sometimes run into problems if you start mixing balanced and unbalanced pieces of equipment - terrible hum etc can creep in. Good luck, -Tom
mdbrien
Thanks for the suggestions, I plan on using the Aurum with an Aragon 8008BB.
D-MAN
I'm using the XLR interconnects from the preamp to the power amp. I found that I prefer them over the RCA's which I can also use; they seem to have better bass. Both kinds are 1/2 meter length. This is just a judgement call on my part.
