scratchy pot

Promedia 4.1 wonderful speakers and I recommend them constantly to everyone, However, I am experiencing a scratchy potentiometer in the Main Volume. Should I just take the Main Pod back to the dealer for service? Or is there an at-home solution. Other than this problem, the speakers perform excepionally well. They are less than one year old and this problem has been slowly increasing for the past five months.

thanks and regards, - Chaz

Thanks Justin. I seemed to have misplaced my original reciept. These speakers are still under warranty so I have to find the damn thing. I will not pay for something twice.

You seem to be a fan of the Klipsch products so I will relate to you a demonstration which I saw about 25 years ago (man, does that ever sound strange. you will know what I'm talking about in 20 years) . Anyway, back to the story. It was a demo of the La Scala model speakers. A sales rep connected a La Scala speaker to a hand held transistor radio. I mean this radio was small (appx. 4" x 6") and powered by a nine volt battery... a pocket radio. You had to be there but I can tell you that sound came out of the speaker. Unbelievable efficiency. Just thought you'd appreciate this.

regards,

Chaz

wow, a transister radio to the La Scal! LoL! i guess that really goes to show that the sound quality and power and clarity that come with Klipsch speakers needs no assistance. Thanks for that. It is amazing how getting good speakers can make something that once sounded like low-fi can be hifi. eg, using a boom box cd player, the sound is just terible. plug in your ProMedia's and wow. the sound is totally different.

The exact opposite ofthis happened to me. After visiting this BB i realized how terrible BOSE is. So, i went back to the BOSE dealer about 60 miles away from my house and checked out the speakers for myself. I went into one of the HT rooms with a family in there, looking to get the $3000 system. I started asking for the wattage, the efficiency of the speakers, the frequency range, etc. The man said he did not have the info. i asked him t olook it up, right infront of these ppl. well, he went to the front desk leaving me with these ppl. they started talking to me, apparently they knew even less than me about HT at the time. i started telling them how bad these speakers were compared to others, especially speakers that cost the same price. i went into tell ing them about how bad the frequency was on the speakers. So we put in the Wyclef CD i had bought at FYE (For Your Entertainment) just down the hall (this is in a mall) and put it in the BOSE cd player. Put it on Gone TIll NOvember and Apocolapse and turned the thing up. Boy, was it loud! The only problemwas you could not understand the lyrics, or even tell it was musoic ofr tha tmatter. I started to lower the volume till the sound was good again, it was no where near a HT concert level. The ppl were not impressed with BOES and admitted that they had fallen for the marketing. I gave them some speakers that would blwo them away for nearly half hte price and sent them to a Tweeter Home Entertainment in Houston. When the BOSE guy came back he said that he was not allowed to share that info or something... we both left, me and the family... It was my first attempt to help someone out with audio.

so, the same basic concept just turned around! LoL!

Try some of that spray cleaner for dirty pots

and tuners and stuff.

It could be the pot is dirty, hence the scratchy

noise.

You can get the stuff at radio shack, or if

you want Audiophile's choice, there's that

Caig Pro-gold stuff.(Probably Spendy.)

I think this stuff will work for dirty pots,

but the rat shack stuff would be fine in your case.

I have used the RS spray it works, good for

old audio gear with dirty pots.
