Frzninvt
I am reasonably certain that the front grill DOES NOT come off, it is permanently fixed. I think that you can peer in the back through the slotted port back there.
rplace
I 2nd the question as to what is inside? Would the shorthorn make a good center between two khorns?
Frzninvt
Rich, the Shorthorn is the precursor to the Cornwall, it needs to be corner loaded. I was thinking a small false corner since it is not as big as a Klipschorn. It is a three-way design as well.

An obvious, large bronze-and-silver motor housing on the woofer makes the EV 15WK a near certainty, and you should be able to see an "EV 15W" (the "K" is often a barely visible add-on stamping). You should be able to read the speaker's designator on the rear cap. Likewise, move up to the midrange -- if it has a bulbous rear, it's most likely a University SAHF. If a flat rear, you should be able to read some sort of K-55. Look at the tweeter rear -- a bronze-colored EV T-35 is likely. Others on the forum know how to get inside if you need to. Try the flashlight-and-peek method first. Larry
stan krajewski
The Aristocrats that I have are like the ones you have. The front simply slides up on the ones I have. Unless someone glued, nailed, stapled, varnished or somehow jammed it shut.
D-MAN
Dang! I gotta say that I think that Shorthorns are gorgeous! Particularily the one you've got! But the EV Aristocrat probably sounds better on the low end - it's a better horn design, IMO. DM

Try the flashlight-and-peek method first. Larry ---------------- Most of the Aristocrats would have 12" woofers rather than 15". The typical set up was a SP12B woofer with a T35B tweeter and an X36 two-way crossover. The most likely upgrade would be an SP12 woofer with a T35 tweeter and the same crossover, although there were some unusual ones with a midrange. If there is only (level control) knob(s) on each cabinet it's a two-way system; if there are both a Brilliance and a Presence knob it looks like a three-way system. I can't see any pics of the speakers in question in the page, only a link to another page with some different Aristocrats. What finish are these? Marvel
The following was a thread on the Aristocrat. I posted a couple of pics of a pair that sold on ebay. They only went for $227. Aristocrats Marvel

JohnA
Man, I sure would like to have that Shorthorn! This is not the best timing for me, but How much? PM/e-mail me if you want to.
CaptnBob
Very nice. Many consider the Trusonic woofer to be the best driver for the Shorthorn - and Klipshorn too, for that matter. The tweeter will probably be a University (gold magnet) but you might luck out and have an Electro-Voice T-35/K-77 in there.
