Yes the problem was that to manny large theatres used the wrong cabinets or the small A7. They should have used the A4 instead for 1200 seats.

Today the sound is thrown at the viewer instead of being

capted in a normal way.

The A4 weighs 600 lbs each.The space between the screen and the back wall has to be more than what the current

cineplex are built for.

The THX approved JBL4675 is the most frequently found speaker in the smaller multiplex theaters. It is not much smaller in depth than an A4, about a 2" difference.

Perhaps he means behind the viewer and not the space behind the screen?

Spece behind the screen is precious. These days, theaters are requesting very shallow speakers so they can use that space for seats in front of the screen. We've developed slim line cinema speakers that are less than 22" deep to respond to this trend.
