formica
And one more for the road... this is my incomplete equipment rack which was custom built to fit the space. It includes space for a rearward facing pro amplifier as well as plenty of room for a HTPC also rear facing. Turned out pretty neat floating between the two doors... DrWho
The intent is the "pause" mode will turn up just these corner lights... this shot gives a better idea... Wow, that's really cool. Have you thought about throwing a tint on those lights? Perhaps a dark copper or a touch of red...kinda like that pic of the RF-83's on the main page of the klipsch website. customsteve01
formica, That looks awesome, I really like the corner lights too. Dr Who has a good idea with the tenting of the lights. Steve

formica
Thanks guys. I may try the tinted light idea out... but first I still have to refinish a pair of khorns. I have a couple of ideas there too... but I haven't worked all those out yet. In the mean time I'll either use my "D"s there as is... or haul my "C"s from upstairs. Starting to look forward to firing the space up... but missing a couple of items like the projector and cables. ROb

meagain
OMG! Stunning! What a great job you did with this. Thanks for this thread. Question... I've been searching.. but can you tell me the size of this room? It looks similar to my big basement room. EDIT: I think I found the pdfs that show the size. meagain
I know men don't like to paint wood or brick.... but have you considered painting, colorwashing, or minimally toneing the fireplace brick?
formica
Yup, the drawing of the proposed space is actually attached to the second post of the thread. The room is 16' wide by about 29' deep... but the actual theatre area (black ceiling) is only 17'8" deep. I have lightly modified the front wall and storage a little to gain about 6"... I know men don't like to paint wood or brick.... but have you considered painting, colorwashing, or minimally toneing the fireplace brick? I guess that makes me one of them. The brickwork actually has a Prairie / Art's and Crafts look to it, which coincidently reflects the exterior of my home. I rather rebuild the carpentry, including the removal of the wood "planks" to try to better capture it... BUT I haven't had time to finalize a design for it. The stair is an easier matter... colterphoto1
That's stunning! beautiful floor, lighting, details- very well thought out. What is your paint color please? Looks kind of olive-grey from the photos, it's dark and manly without being too drab. I like it a lot! Michael
meagain
On my monitor it looks like a pretty grey (slateish?). A warm grey. On my laptop, it appears a tad dk blue-grey.
formica
What is your paint color please? Thanks... I've used it before and it does give a rich "manly" feeling, even though it's pretty dark. I'm guessing the colour cast has alot to do with the halogen lighting, but it is a pretty neutral dark grey. The colour is: SICO 4209-53 Believe it or not I used a darker version of the 4209 for the black ceiling and a lighter version in the staircase at the rear. Actually I'm quite pleased with the effect of the pot lighting and would recommend others to try it out. Following sfogg's recommendations, I will be integrating a X10 type remote control for them which add further to the "attention to detail" feeling. Now if I could just get it finished... billyjoe72
I just now got around to seeing your semi finished pictures. Damn, that sure is sweet. I feel stupid saying sweet but I'm at a loss of words that haven't been used.[] Truely a great room for movies. All the little details just look wonderful. Pat yourself on the back. toodles
formica
I got and installed my projector.... finally went with the Panasonic AE900U with the American mail in rebate thanks to frzinvt (Charles') help. I moved the Proj back about 18" and temporarily blocked the hush-hole. I ran two wire "molds" to hide the wires.
formica
Finished up the shelves... cut and edged both them and the doors. The equipment rack is technically ready to receive equipment.
formica
Some sample equipment hooked up to show off the rack's capability to hide the wires at the rear.

sfogg
Hi Rob, Looks great! The rack wire hiding is a great idea. Have you had a chance to fire up the projector yet? Give it a quick once over if you get a chance to make sure everything is OK with it... just in case. Of course most warn.... don't buy the projector till you are done. Once you fire one up it is hard to stop watching and finish the room. Shawn
