Cheap DVDs

Got an email from a company called DVDTo.com. No affiliation & don't know how

they got my email address, but they're having a sale.

DVDs are

$6.50 & if you buy 10, you get one free - which brings the price

down to about $5.90. Free shipping. Seems like a good deal

to me.

I agree, since I'd never heard of them and the only place I'd bought DVDs from online was DeepDiscount.

I suppose they're selling email lists now just like they sell mailing

lists. Site looks like a legit operation - if it's a scam I'm

only out $65....

I just read the FAQ about the "quality" of the products...

WTF?!!!

No jewel cases, missing menus, shipping can take up to four weeks, etc, etc.

But hey, its cheap, right?!

Looks like some kids have invested in some DVD burners to put in a basement and now they's runnin' a bid'ness.

If anyone buys from there, please leave some feedback!

sounds like a little DVD Decrypter/Nero Recode action to me.

Well, I received 6 of the 11 DVD's I ordered from these folks two weeks

ago. The other 5 were out of stock. Doesn't say much for

their selection, but only got charged for the discs that shipped.

Took the DVD's a while to get here because they were shipped from (wait for it.....) MALAYSIA!

The discs arrived in clear vinyl sleeves with what appears to be "OEM"

art work covers - just no plastic "keep cases." The copy of "Ray"

(great movie, by the way) even has the little hologram thingys in the

paper. The discs all say made in the USA and appear to have the

studio art work printed on the discs.

Discs are subtitled in English, Spanish, French, Bahasa (which I now

know is a Malay dialect), Chinese, and Thai - which should come in real

handy. I watched "Downfall" last night in German with English

subtitles. I don't know if the version released here is dubbed in

English, but I actually preferred it in German, rather than dubbed.

Quality of the discs was fine, with one exception. The copy of

"Catch me if you can" appears to have led a prior life as a

rental. It arrived scratched and pitted and would not play.

However, when I emailed customer service they immediately offered to

replace the bad disc with a copy of "Adaptation" which had been out of

stock at the time of my original order. Which was fine with me.

So, I can't give them an unqualified recommendation, but it was not an unmitigated disaster either.

Who says I'm advocating anything? I'm saying you might as well be doing renting and copying. It's funny, just because you are paying $5.95 and having someone else do the work you think it's okay? The discs you're buying aren't legit, but if it helps you sleep better, you go on and keep thinking they are.
