Allan Songer
I was wondering if any of you experts out there could share some of your experiences with rolling different types of capacitors in amps, (SET, PP tube and solid state), preamps and speaker crossovers when playing authentic hillbilly music--none of that BS AP Carter stuff--the REAL deal. Malcolm
Got some old Carter family 78s? Then how about making a Leyden jar out of a jelly jar. When you are not listening to music through it you can use it to hold your moonshine.
fini
I'd say Howard Spragues.
joshnich
I would think that they would be the same for hillbilly as they would for any music. Or if people were honest and not too snobby they would say so! J PS great one fini!
Audible Nectar
The best cans for this purpose is a BEER CAN - at least for purposes of speaker networks. How do I know? It HAS to be true, because these network boards Josh just sent me have beer cans on them. They say that they contain 13% alcohol by volume - at least I think that's what "uf" means....[]

jerohm
I know NOTHING about no hillbilly capacitors, and I am SURE that you won't consider them the real deal, but if you don't have "Timewarp", Ozark Mountain Daredevils (the closest thing to a box set retrospective), gitit. You won't be sorry. ... but I'm just a good ol' boy that's learned to wait .
Mallette
I recommend the outdoor can with the little crescent moon on it. Dave
Gilbert
Damn, Alan, you were the last MF I expected to see start a thread about Hillbilly anything. I can give you plenty of music choices,....But I aint never rolled no capacitors in my dang amps.s But out of curiousity, are we talking Hillbilly as in Lester and Earl, or Roy Jones...... Or Rock-a-Billy, as in BR459, or Bill Pardon & His Nashville Rebels...... I've seen the later two groups here in Tulsa, they're pretty dang good too. WMcD
They must be made from a Red Man can with White Lightning dielectric, obviously. Gil
WMcD
They must be made from a Red Man can and use White Lightning dielectric. Failures from over voltage are rather spectacular. Gil
