bismarck
My synergy 12 sub comes on friday and i am wondering what all i need to do to set it up. I have already read to set the crossover on the subwoofer all the way up and use the crossover on the reciever, which i have at 80hz. I am wondering about the phase setting though, i know it is used to make your speakers blend and also something about where i am sitting relative to the subwoofer. Also, do i just set the gain on the subwoofer at what sounds best to me and leave it at that, or is the gain gonna be something i want to adjust going from movie to music and back, granted i am not an audiophile and have nothing near golden ears. I just don't want to end up in a situation where i have a few settings totally wrong so that my system doesn't work near its potential. thanks
wuzzzer
Best thing to do as far as phase adjustment is to adjust it until the bass is loudest and smoothest at your listening position. Gain or level adjustment is going to vary from person to person. It helps if you can have someone else adjust it while you sit where you normally listen. Just don't be afraid to experiment. MrMcGoo
On other current Klipsch subs there is a bypass switch. It is better to fully bypass the subwoofer's crossover, but do set it as high as possible just in case. The phase switch is to minimize bass cancellations. Whichever position gives the most bass should be used. Be sure to set all speakers to small in your receiver's setup menu for best performance. strutter
i just got the same sub. congrats on your purchase. the synergy sub-12 doesn't have a bypass that i can see. so you'll have to turn the cross over up. check out the post "which subwoofer should i use" DrWho has given me some great info. brennyE
when you first get your new sub you will most likely have the sub turned up loud because you just purchased a new sub and want to hear it (and feel it!) but over time you will start turning it down to match speakers to get a better blend.(this is what I do whenever I get a new sub, no fail)
