This forum has more info on this driver than any I have yet to find so I hope I'm not asking an old question. Any information or guidance concerning the University C15W would sure be appreciated. I own four of these woofers, two of which look like they are destined for use in a pair of University Classics that I hope to begin building soon, so T/S figures won't help me much there. But the other two could be used in some other sort of enclosure that could be optimized. I've downloaded the Praxis freeware but simply haven't had the extra time to sit down, learn it, and then apply it to what I have. If worse comes to worse . . . but it would be nice if someone just happened to already have the figures. However, the figures of: Fs of 58hz, Qes of .22 were mentioned in passing in another thread. I'm thinking that the Fs should be lower, but hard to tell unless you went ahead and exercised one for a while and then subjected it to testing. I may be forced to get a Dayton WT2 Woofer tester and see what I can come up with. I just thought with all the talk about the C15W that it had been done before . That Dayton woofer tester looks pretty neat, and a heck of a lot easier to use than the Praxis software I've been looking at. But, the cost is about what I'm going to spend for plywood for my Classics, so they kinda take precedent. Say, you probably already know this, but from what I have read it's a good idea to "rebreak" the speaker in for a half hour or so to get the cone and other components loosened back up before you run your tests. I know my C15Ws are probably 40 or so years old and have been carefully stored in boxes for quite some time and haven't been used. I expect it will take a while to get things moving right again. Just a thought. I am *very* interested in any findings you may arrive at. One last thing - Great Plains, the Altec specialists up in Oklahoma is now advertising on their web site that they can service University products. They have some ex-University employees and for all I know, some of the original manufacturing equipment, much like they do for Altec. One of their services is remagnetizing speaker magnets. I really like this woofer. I got 3, for a total of $180, plus shipping, all in excellent condition. Some had paid as much as $200 for one on ebay. Can Great Plains recone coaxials? Hadn't visited it in some time, so I was a little surprised to see the University reference near the bottom of the home page. I poked around a little bit but couldn't find any additional information. Shame about that 315C. They go for big bucks and look like a good contender against the Altec 604s. I recently picked up 2 C8Ms, 2 C8Ws (supposedly the 8" version of the C15W), and 2 T202 Sphericon tweeters, all NOS in their original box, never used, for I think $68.00 plus shipping. Of course, now I'm asking myself what am I going to build with these and where in the world can I put them. My current speakers are a 3-way based on what basically looks like a 6201 12" woofer, the C8M and the T202 in a ported cabinet. Really not too bad actually, although I think the Classics will leave them in the dust once I get them built. Armando, would you mind if I posted this over on the Karlson forum? One of the members built a K15 with a C15W and didn't seem too happy. He was asking for TS parameters and of course, no one had them. I was actually considering trying a K15 myself until I came across your thread. Very inspiring. She had this "there is something about this speaker that is worth more than $15.00"-look on her face. I tried the Karlson (really old, probably as old as that woman and in bad shape ( the Karlson ) when I got home, and I was really impressed, it sounded as good as my SK. I was careless, dropped the woofer when I took it off, and put a big hole through the diaphragm. The enclosure would take a lot to restore, so I got rid of it and the woofer. At the time, about 5 years ago, I didn't know the value of that woofer. No, I don't mind if you post it on the Karlson forum. What is the link, it changed its web address, didn't it? Great, but sad story. We all probably have similar tales. I've never heard a Karlson, but have been intrigued by the design. Despite its plots, it's supposed to have a great sound.
