I'm finally content with my two channel system (v. finished speakers)

Over the long weekend, I finally got around to putting the finishing

touches on my DIY Proac Response 2.5's...What can I say but amazing?

Though for home theatre I'd give the edge to the old RF-5's, due to the

efficiency and sheer power, for music, hands down Proacs...They sound

absolutely incredible. They don't look bad with the red maple either.

Unfortunately as I'm typing this, I'm starting to think about upgrading

my preamp and amp...oh well, what can you do.

Lucky you. Being content is one big word in this hobby. I'm still trying all kinds of things on my speaker placement to get the absolute best out of them. Dont' get me wrong they sound better than any of what I've heard before, but I know I can get them to sound even better. Room treatment maybe?? Who knows?? Here's what I got that replaced my Khorns--Edgarhorn Titan II.

Great looking speakers, looks like you did a great job, congrats. My I reccomend that you stop; visiting this forum, all audio equipment stores, viewing audio equipment mags and don't visit friends w/ audio equipment unless they just have a clock radio, etc. That is if you want to remain content.

Are those bare walls? thats a no no.

It's a McIntosh MC-2105. I used to think it's 105 watts per channel was

plenty, but with the proacs and their lowly 88 db sensitivity, I'm

thinking not. I'll probably upgrade to something with a bit more

authority sooner or later (though I do really like how the mac sounds).

If you can get ahold of a 200 WPC McIntosh MC7200 relatively inexpensive, that would definately be one way to go. This way you'd still have that great Mac sound with a bit more power to boot! Unfortunantly, no McIntosh is cheap (there's always a catch)...[:(]

prodj101, fantastic looking speakers! I've heard the factory 2.5s at a showroom, they're very musical. Do these contain the Scan-speak 18W and the D2010? Hows that 6 1/2' woofer? I hear its got good bass for its size in that proac-design. How does that 18W sound? I remember it being slightly soft but quite smooth. Nice job building those yourself.

They're actually 7 inch drivers, but all the other info is correct. The

bass extension is exceptional. While they're obviously not as loud as

RF-5's, they have better low end extension (I don't need a sub at all

with them, except for things like pomps and pipes). They're a bit more

laid back, but I kind of like that. I used better crossover components

than those found in the factor models, so the mid and high detail is a

little bit better.

JT, thanks for mentioning the bigger old mcintosh amps...somehow I had completel yforgotten they existed [:$]
