? on speaker protection

the automotive bulbs that Al builds into his crossovers, are they in the tweeter section only? Will they gobble up any and all dc voltage that may slip past an amp? I am just curious how this works. I can handle a 5 on the amp tech scale as far as explanations go. Start talking feed back loops and all that and I might get a bit lost

Thanks in advance

My father installed a small "automotive" fuse on the back of each of

the CWs when he first bought them for protection of the whole speaker.

They only came handy once, and that was when we were recording our pipe

organ. He had the mics going to the Panasonic SV-3700 DAT recorder via

a dbx mic preamp and a small 4-channel mixer.

Well, to make a long story short, once we got done recording, he went

to turn on the amp so we could here the recording, however he forgot

that the mics were still on and when the speaker relay in the amp

kicked on, we heard the loudest acoustic feedback ever...

"wwwwwooooooooOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHPPPPPPPP - SNAP!!!"

The "snap" was the fuses popping. And I honest don't remember ever

seeing my father move as fast as he did that day. It was rather funny

and we still look back on that day (about 15 years ago) and laugh about

it on occation.

Since I have been using the CWs, I have always bypassed those fuses. I

see no reason to use them. For one, I do not do any recording, and two,

I would have to be nearly deaf or in the next county to have to put

enough power into them in order to blow those fuses. I can't even image

dumping 10 full watts into these CWs and staying in the same room. OUCH!
