Mighty Favog
I must be older than anyone here . . . I saw Gary Lewis & the Playboys ("Who wants to Buy this Diamond Ring") at some indoor venue in summer 1965 (I think) on the NJ Boardwalk. It's called "This Diamond Ring". I have the CD to this day and some of my friends and I listened to it on 8-Track in the early 80's in his underdash mounted 69' Charger SE (rare small block engine). Moderators Amy Posted June 23, 2006 Moderators Share Posted June 23, 2006 Neil Diamond, Market Square Arena, Indianapolis...I was probably about 10 years old. [] First concert I chose to go to? Van Halen (Haggar) OU812 tour Fall '88, Notre Dame, South Bend, IN. Road trip from IU Bloomington, Freshman year. Good times.
Mike Lindsey
Paul McCartney and Wings in 1976. They started it off with Live and Let Die with a real cannon! It was the loudest damn thing I had ever heard! Great show, and I was hooked on live music ever since. Probably been to 100 concerts in my lifetime so far. Best concerts (not in any particular order) Rush - 1982 at Cap Center in Washington D.C (Neil was unbelievable this night) Paul McCartney and Wings on July 4th 1990 at RFK stadium from the 3rd row REO Speedwagon leading off for Aerosmith in 1977 (absolute kickass live band!) Rickie Lee Jones at the Birchmere (mid 90's) - I could have reached out and grabbed her leg while she was playing the piano. Michael Hedges at the Birchmere right before he was killed And so many more... Mike
Piranha
The California Jam at the Ontario Motor Speedway in April of 1974 with my now deceased uncle. Traffic was so bad that cars had to park on the shoulder of Interstate 10 and the concert goers walked the remaing distance to the venue. I had to wait in line for over two hours to go to the restroom. I still remember never wanting to go to a large multi band music festival again afterwards. J.4knee
It was one of these two shows but not sure which was first. The Boston Pops in Lennox Mass right after Arthur Fielder died or Little River Band at the Bloomsburg fair I think the Little Rive Band was first but just too many cob webs to remember exactly. Joe Shmoe
Kiss 1976 first leg of their rock and roll over tour. Uriah Heap opened Syracuse War Memorial. Tickets were $6.50 each and even though Kiss sucks they give you your moneys worth. Helluva show! I believe theres a bootleg of that tour that just surfaced on DVD! I don't think there had been much footage of that tour until just recently. Anyway.... my first concert was Duran Duran "Seven & the ragged tiger tour" 1983? I think it was? They played at Reunion Arena Dallas TX. I sure did catch alot of crap for it in school lol. I much rather would have loved to go see Dio or WASP... but parents being parents.... filmboydoug
I was mistaken in my earlier post, I saw Buddy Rich before Ted Nugent. My band teacher took a bunch of us. I remember us all wondering about this viscious scowl he sent in the direction of the the trumpet section. []
DaleR
Filmboy, I got a chance to see Buddy Rich as well. I guess I was about 10 yrs old. My grandmother took me, and she was able to get me on his tour bus to meet him after the show. He had a towel over his head and sweat poured off of him. I remember that he was really nice, and he spent about 10 minutes with me. He even told me not to start smoking. A real class act! If my memory serves, my first concert was Kiss and they played at our local ice rink in Jackson, MI, circa 1976 maybe? I think the opening band may have been Blue Oyster Cult. Anyway, Kiss' makeup started to melt in the heat, and I remember reading in the paper the next day that the band was PO'ed and had vowed never to come back again. BigStewMan
I saw YES in 1978; they had a circular, rotating stage. I have tickets to see Roger Waters performing Dark Side of the Moon this fall. Who have you seen the most? For me: The Guess Who...three times and REO Speedwagon...three times.
wstrickland1
Procal Harum (sp?) at the Municipal Auditorium sometime in the early 70s. I had to be younger than 10, prolly 8 or 9 and my sister was babysitting me. She had to take me on her date. I remember hating it. Damn it was so loud and I was scared. Reefer, pills, arm dope in the bathrooms. I was scarred for life.
Seadog
My folks took us to see the the Airmen of Note when I was about 9 (1969). Big band style in the Glenn Miller tradition. http://www.airmenofnote.com/

kaiser SET say
Jimi Hendrix, The Summit, Houston, Texas 1968. My best friend (Len Gerrard) was 17 years old and I was 12, I had extremely liberal parents God rest their souls. I remember being the only 12 year old I know or knew of that had 4 six foot black lights in his bedroom with some of the best posters that era had to offer. Then in 1969 my older half brother who was stationed in Germany sent me my first rig which consisted of a Grundig AM/FM short wave (valve) stereo with 2 way speakers. I went right out and bought myself a Dual 501 table mated to what might have been the proto run of the venerable Shure V15 cartridge and I have not looked back since[] Have not had a chance to hit the forum lately as our fiscal year end is up at work and have been very busy. Cool thread[]
meagain
At least 19 times I've seen Rush. I have all my ticket stubs.
Mike Lindsey
19 times... LMAO I'll bet there's a few Deadheads that have seen 100 or more shows. I've seen Buffett 5 times, and a few bands 3 times (Wings, Boston, Rush, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Bodeans) Mike
colterphoto1
The MOST ? - Yes, every tour since that first one- Relayer, Tormato, Union, Drama (did they tour this one?) , Going for the One, 90125, Ladder, Open your Eyes is the albums that come to mind. Seems that it was every other year for quite some time. Still one of those band where I buy every release, every solo effort, etc. A Yes Fan for Life Michael
oldtimer
Also a Yes fan for life, my wife just gave me a new cd of live versions and I love it. Probably the most live concerts of a single artist for me would be Chick Corea.
fini
I'm not sure which was first, but I saw the Mills Brothers and Debbie Reynolds from the light booth at the Desert Inn. Miss Reynolds introduced her two young children to the audience that night, and her daughter (pre- side-of-the-head cinnamon rolls) performed with Debbie! My uncle was a bellman, and snuck us in. Saw some pretty ladies in the casino too(peeking into some of the lounges while passing by...)! Speaking of such, I remember being 14 at Disneyland, on the bridge to the castle, when my first conscious view of real, honest-to-goodness adult cleavage burned itself into my retina. Just thought I'd share...
meagain
Yes might be my 2nd mostest, but perhaps the more clubby touring bands are inching up - like the Bunnymen. King's X, Dada - I keep running into them everywhere I go. We should do a 'What's the best concert you ever saw thread'! I can't pick though.
