pmsummer
An interesting list from Paste Magazine. I especially like #'s 1 and 100 (and a few inbetween as bolded).Just someone's opinion, but an interesting list nonetheless. http://www.pastemagazine.com/action...article_id=3003 __________________
kelA
I thought they left a few off the list, but then I reread it as "living" songwriters.
garymd
Robert Hunter was still alive last time I checked. Although he worked with Garcia, he still should be on the list IMO. These lists can never please everyone. It should have been labeled "living rock/pop songwriters." Prince in the top 10? Gimme a break!!!!! jheis
Yeah, and Brian Wilson in the top ten? The only term that adequately describes his writing is insipid. (Where is the "ducking for cover" smiley?) James
oldbuckster
Even living some of those writers don't belong there; how can you say McCarntney? Lennon/ McCarntney is more like it...............Just someone's opinion..........interesting...........
toddvj
Lennon's not alive anymore, so that's why it's not Lennon/McCartney.
nicholtl
Boby Dylan as #1??? Prince as #10?! Jeff Tweedy shouldn't even be on there. And no way in hell can Aimee Mann be 30+ slots over Nick Cave. Yeah, when hell freezes over!!! (where's Don Henley of The Eagles?)
Mike Lindsey
Kris Kristofferson in front of Jackson Browne?! Please... Billy Joel and Rickie Lee Jones aren't even on the list... Mike
oldbuckster
Lennon's not alive anymore, so that's why it's not Lennon/McCartney. True, but then McCartney shouldn't be on the list.............the more I look at that list, the less I like it,but it's just a list someone made up, their opinion, not mine...............good topic for discussion............... Fish
Kris Kristofferson in front of Jackson Browne?! Please. Mike Yikes! I'm not sure if Jackson wrote all his songs but he's wrote plenty and Kris is not in the same leauge, imo
MarkBK
Too many holes in the list - people that sould be listed that are not. Some that are listed are questionable. Too many opinions for a list like this to appease everyone.
Mike Lindsey
True, but then McCartney shouldn't be on the list ob, I hope you're kidding with that statement. You think there are 100 songrwriter's better than McCartney on this planet? LOL... Mike

wheelman
If Bernie Taupin is still alive he should be close to the Top ten ( the old Elton John stuff). Old Bob Dylan wrote some great songs especially for other folks. I can't believe it when I find another tune I love written by him. The guy is an incredible songwriter. Mike Lindsey
If Bernie Taupin is still alive he should be close to the Top ten ( the old Elton John stuff). Elton and Bernie are at #23... Mike
Steve_L
Mike, thanks for pointing out the lack of Billy Joel. Where's BB King?
ranjith
I think Sting could've been higher than #62, his voice suited The Police's tone so well. Even Flavour Flav ranks higher than Sting [:|]
PrestonTom
I am not going to argue about # 1, since Dylan is in a league by himself. However, Neil Young is quite good, although #2 is generous, I can not see him in front of Van Morrison. Van Morrison as #20, you have got to be kidding .... He is one of the few truely great song writers -Tom
