They don't seem to add any coloration to the music and they are very detailed. I like these crossovers. I also tried v-caps in my SETH amplifiers as well as Jensens. I did not like either of them. Jensens are too muddy and v-caps are too dry. What a waste of money. I have some GE type PIO caps that really make my SETH amps sing. Who says capacitors don't make any difference? I just got done sampling some Jensen AA networks in my Belles, and am in the "caps matter" club.....and of course, the three different MC30 rebuilds was a real revelation. I also tried v-caps in my SETH amplifiers as well as Jensens. I did not like either of them...... Isn't that strange how circuit/gear specific these can be? Audible Nectar Posted November 13, 2006 Share Posted November 13, 2006 I don't know what the V-Caps are like, but WOWSERS did my Sonic Craft Platinum caps need some time to settle!!! They were OK when I first got them, but once they broke in.......WOWWEE it was a whole new world in midrange bloom and detail. It almost has me thinking that we should install such recapped gear in a "safe room" for a few weeks and run them continuously....then do the evaluations. I suppose if it's "way off", then I could see trying something else......but some of these high end caps don't show thier "true colors" until they have broken in. I have read in places that it is recommended to allow the VCaps 500 hours before you get the complete picture. I'll be curious if you notice any changes with your networks. I'll be curious if you notice any changes with your networks. The problem is they sound way off and I can't live with that sound for 6 months for the caps to settle in. Is there any other way to burn in the caps outside the amp? What I noticed with my v-capped networks is that they are very transparent. Dean came up with a way to do it with several standard 9V batteries. Check it out as the reports were that for many types the difference was significant. Their applications were in speaker-level applications rather than high voltage, but I think the polarity reversal in the process has much to do with it - could perhaps be adapted to high VDC applications, too... " Jensens in the parafeed amps (Horus derived) actually sounded VERY good to me -- approx $80.00 worth. In the Moondogs I liked them initially, but tried Hovlands (for the second time) after that, and then Orange Drops (the cheapest of all of them), and found the less expensive option best, less draggy (aka muddy). That perceived change may even have been related to my own frame of mind, mood, or something like that. There are lots of guys who have Jensens in Moondogs who love them, so it's really nice to have so many options available. I agree caps make a difference, but as you indicated the most costly of those tried might not necessarily be the best for a given design. For that extra money you get the Variable Stage Quadrant Dielectric , hermetically sealed inside a solid brass cannister with soldered lead terminations. The actual voltage they see in the amps is ~160v though, but the batteries I have drained and measure only 40v. I am not sure if it will make any difference. Thanks Erik, I like them too.
