dimentions for new media room

okay, i am buying a David Weekely home. it's going to be built from the ground up and i have some options on my "bonus room" http://www.davidweekleyhomes.com/images/planpdfs/1751d2.pdf that should be the link to the floor plan.

the bonus room is 15' X 25' (not including the 6' X 10' part by the stairs). i want to add a wall to this room making it into a closed off media room and a small game room (well smaller). the problem is i don't know where to place the wall. i have drawn the room in autocad and dimentioned it out. i made the "chairs" 3'x3' and placed them 1' apart and 2.5' behind. the last row of chairs won't be added for some time so it will be very empty for a while. (also when the time comes i may put the back row of chairs on either a 1' platform, what would be a good raised dimention?). i am guessing 5' from the tv should be a good viewing distance. (the tv will be the sony 70" rear projection http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=KDSR70XBR2&Dept=tvvideo&CategoryName=tv_Full_HD_1080_Rear_Projection

as it stands now i will have 4' on either side of the chairs from the wall. there is also 5' from the front chairs to the tv. at what dimention should the rear wall be placed behind the LAST row of chairs? does it matter that much? should i keep it the same distance as the tv to the front row? just remember the rear wall can be placed ANYWHERE, i have up to 25' total in that room. i am just looking for a good room dimention and hopefully i don't scarifice my "game room" all that much. i really only want to put a computer desk or maybe a air hocky, or even possibly a shuffle board table in there. i also want to add in, the "closet" and the square with the circle in it, will be removed. the closet is going away the the square with the circle will be moved to be even with the wall and an identicle "collum" will be placed on the othe side. (it's some kind of vent or something like that). i am also asking where the door should be placed. i was thinking to keep it in the front so it would be easy to bring the tv in (especally once i add the raised floor).

also the windows in the front of the room, i am going to hang thick drapes the entire length of the wall and give it a "theater" feel.

i just thought and drew this up. i wanted to see if 6 chairs could fit in this room. i drew it up and it seems like it would. what do you think of keeping all the dimentions 2'? okay okay, it's late i can't sleep so i did some more drawing. this one has the perposed speaker placement with the rear chairs 2' from the wall. the red line is a 3' door dimention. the magenta box is the thickness of the tv. that would give me a 7'x15' game room but a 15' x 17' 6" media room that would hold 6 chairs. (i don't even have 4 friends i could invite...maybe i will make some if i build it....lol.

again, no sleep, redrew. i will most likely never have 6 chairs, 4 would be ideal, bigger walk ways. i also couldn't put in a step up because of the way i have to enter the room. i placed the door (4ft) in the middle of the wall, just keeping it all even, becasue it seemed like the best choice.

could all this be made easer if i just made the room 15'x15'???

thank you for all who help in this decision!

Is the 15'x20' dimension from the windows to the stairs? What are you going to put in the "Game Room"? What kind of chair are you going to use in the "Media Room"? Just asking because I can try to sketch something out, I also have a Berkline chair sheet that has dimensions for the different groups.

james,

yes the dimentions go from the window to the WALL of the stairs. i have that entire room if i really want. i don't think the chairs will recline, just some comfortable ones. i really need to get to an et store and see what is available, along with the dimentions.

i am thinking of shrinking the room 1 foot to make it 15x12. that way i can two good size rooms. if i do the "recliner" chairs, i just might put 2 or 3 in there. my living room right now with the set up is 15x11, so i have a good look at what the size will be.

i will link a new pdf file for what i was thinking of doing.

here is the updated pdf. right now the chairs are 1' 6" apart (normal chairs) and there is 4' 6" from the front of the first chair to the front of the tv. the room is 15'x12' and there is a 4' door. the electronics is going to be under the tv (i already drew up a perposed et center i will have built at a later date) along with the center speaker. i can put that pdf in here too later on.

here is the plans for the perposed et center. the big square empty holes on the far top and left will most likely be drawers to hold stuff. the center speaker goes of course in the top center. the bottom center square if for the outlaw 990 pre/pro. the bottom left is for the outlaw 7100 (james i am sorry i will eventually get one). the two squares on the bottom right is for the blue ray dvd player and playstation 2. i think it is nice and will do it's job.

here is the over all structure dimentions for the room. it's 15'x12' and it should be big enough to have 3 chairs across, maybe 4. depending on the builder i may have to widen it a bit. all that would mean is more room for the chairs to go across. i am not sure how or if i could do two rows, but i only have a family of 3. if anyone knows good dimentions of some media chairs please respond. whats a good distance to be sitting away from the tv? this tv is going to be the 70" one so i would assume the further the better. i am thinking i should make the room wide enough to have 4 chairs across. any opinions???

okay here is two rooms one is 15x13 and the other 15x12. i used the dimensions James V gave me and drew true size the curved media chairs. PLEASE everyone don't hold back on opinions or the room size or especially speaker placement. i guess i could also split the difference and have a 15x12.5 room. if there is some kind of "master" dimensions for speakers with angles just let me know i will draw them in. right now i am just shooting in the dark. i guess the idea room would be a huge square and all the speakers would be equal distant, but i can't do that in this home.

Sorry but to point out something, your room dimensions are 15x14 and 15x13 per your drawings. colterphoto1 has put up a link before, but now I can't find it, it said that the two rear speakers, the ones on the back wall, should be place right next to each other. Other then that I would go with the bigger of the two rooms, it will give you that little extra elbow room that you just might need.

oops sorry guys, you are right games i drew a 15x13 and 15x14 room. i just may go with the 14' room.

the auto cad programs i am running are autocad 04, i also used architectural desktop 04, and i used inventor 10 to draw the chairs. so the rear speakers need to be closer...alright i can do that.
