Quitting Smoking

Well ..well....the old stop smokin' thread ain't been gettin' much action lately.I thought I would come on and proclaim my 6 months of being tobacco free. The main reason is 1. to thank those that posted in this and another thread I recall.I know it's been a while but it was one of the things in the back of my mind. 2. To tell others you really can do it and it ain't as bad as you may think.I smoked 30+ years, I've never did many things in my life without smoking.

I was convinced I could never give up my old bud, through thick and thin for all those years. How could I eat and not smoke after, how could I have a beer without smoking and why would you want to.I like most I think suffered more from thinking about it than the real thing could ever be.I turned 50 in 2010, I decided I'd never smoke from 50 on.The cost was a slight factor but not the most important, mostly for health and family. One big bonus is about a $300 per month saving though I must admit.

My method, I quit cold turkey but did buy a box of nicotine gum.I chewed about 1/2 of what was directed, 3-4 pc per day. After about 6 weeks I went down to 2 and after 10 weeks tried chewing only orbit and it worked great.l have no problem with people smoking around me.I notice that they do smoke less than when I smoked too.

I really just wanted to thank others and maybe help others. If you quit stay quit, if you're thinkin' about quittin' you really can.

It's been about two years for me, and I hate it. I still want to smoke all the time, I've ballooned into a big fat potential cardiac victim, and I've lost more hair. I'm pretty sure the hair loss is a related side-effect.

Still not so much as a puff since finishing up with that horrible Chantix stuff (our Motto: "More side Effects that a Nuclear Rector") but I've compensated by staying drunk most of the time.

Geez, it was only a lousy 3 pack-a-day habit. Still, I haven't turned into some self-righteous prig like too many ex-anythings, and I find that watching porno smoking videos (yes there is such a thing, but don't ask me how I know) attenuates the cravings.

I want to start taking up smoking.. anyone have any advice on best how to do it?

Just something to consider.I'm thinking Pluto is gonna be more expensive than IN? Startin' is pretty easy, go hang around some teenagers that are smokers. You might also consider that in 30 years the price will have increased 25000%.That is like a million dollars a pack[:|]

Coming up on 4 years, both me and the wife. I have no cravings whatsoever. I can't apologize enough to all my friends & family who put up with the stench all those years as I was puffing away, especially while on the road.

Was at a Further (G-Dead) show at Radio City Music Hall Saturday night and was appalled to see people lighting up (yes, cigarettes) at their seats and putting them out on the beautiful carpet. I wouldn't mind so much if they were lighting up a pipe but this was disgusting IMO.

Congrats to all that have quit and stuck to it!

My wife is a former smoker (I've never smoked). She's turned into one of those lessor tolerant ex smokers that you hear about. We'd go somewhere to eat and I'd ask for first available... she'd over-ride me and insist on no smoking. Not because she doesn't want the temptation (she did for the first 2-3 years) but rather, it now makes her ill to smell second hand smoke.

Hit me as funny one day when we were seated in the no-smoking section. We were at table "X" and it seems this table was on one side of an imaginary line and just 3 feet away from us was another table on the other side of this imaginary line... of course, they were smoking and their little cloud worked its way over to our "no smoking" table. She was fuming (no pun intended) I kind of got a kick out of it because of the 10 years prior to her quitting, she was SO oblivious to my point of view and my comments about how her clothes smelled.

I've seen how hard it can be so my respect goes out to anyone who's successfully quit smoking but also to those who are trying to quit.

There is a quit website that offers an open support-group oreinted forum. You can go there and just read what people go through in trying to quit tobacco and staying quit. It is quitnet.com . Though I never did use any form of tobacco I doff my hat to those who bite the 'quit' bullet. In this same vein science has defined a liver enzyme defect that impacts those odd folks who use tobacco and can quit tobacco with ease. It seems they lack volumes of the enzyme made in the liver that break down nicotine. As such they do not develop a dose dependent relationship with nicotine and essentially do not become addicted to tobacco.

Quitting is for quitters !

I am sure if Coytee's wife can put up with Coytee she can deal with anything. [:P]

I am trying to quit..[:@]...from 1.5 packs a day to three cigarettes yesterday and so far today 1/2 of one, this sucks.

So.....howz it going on the no smokin' dtel? I have not smoked for one year and two months, never wanted one since I quit.I can't believe I waited so long to quit, I bought into the hype that it was almost impossible.I weigh the same today as the day I quit, another worry I had unfounded.I made it up in my mind to quit, after over three decades, I did it and anyone else can too.I'll say again this thread and some friends that also quit really inspired me.I have plenty friends that do still smoke and it's their choice, I still support adults right to smoke if they choose.

There is no better time than now to quit.if you been thinking about it just make up your mind to do it, you can.

I read this just to see what was going on and you caught me. [:$]

I am back to smoking. [:$] I started a diet to lose weight and cheated with smoking.

I did lose 50 pounds since then, and at 235 now I realize I would be in great shape at 200-210. I was just talking with my wife about trying to quit again since I at least have a grip on the weight loss thing.

I am going to start working out (more regularly) and cutting back on the smoking again until I quit, i think the working out will help because I feel better and more motivated.

Thanks for asking........I think........no I really need to quit, it's a disgusting habit that kills.

I will get in great shape and smoke free.......and probably get hit by a meteorite ! [:P]
