jrmeyer
My Sony amp has no sub out our variable audio out, only a pair of clips for a sub woofer speaker wire. So do I need to buy a new amp in order to have a powered sub, or is there some alternative solution? That is -- assuming the sub does not have a High Level Input. If the sub does have a high level input, is the result just as good as if I used a low level input from an amp out? Or should I just scrap the amp and get a better one first? Thanks for your comments. James MeyerPhoenix, AZ
Guest BobG
High level input on a sub is just as good as low level.
Klipsch Employees Trey Cannon Posted May 19, 2007 Klipsch Employees Share Posted May 19, 2007 If your sub does not have that type of input, check with the car audio place and get a high to low level converter. I use one on my surrounds now. Works fine. Not that I would call it High end...but it works.
zuzu
Trey and Bob please look at my Question to Klipsch on bi-wire on the 2 channel forum. Thanks.
DrWho
What are you running for mains and sub? If you plan on moving to a new receiver in the near future, then it wouldn't be a bad idea to just update now.
jrmeyer
Thanks for the comments everyone. I just bought a new KLIPSCH RW 12d Sub -- and since I have a cheap SONY amp (too ashamed to lookl up the specs and report them here) , I'm planning on spending aobut $700 on a new Yamaha amp after reading what I read on this forum about Yamaha.
