ajcllc
I am torn what to do and am thinking of a relatively cheap upgrade for my system. I can either get some Blue Jean or Zebra interconnects or some 12AU7 tubes for my amp. What are your thoughts?
Daddy Dee
tubes! but make sure you are getting some decent and to offer another flavor. What kind of gear are you going to be rolling in new tubes. Some circuits are friendlier to tube rolling than others and synergistic issues are in play, too.
rsp1068
Ditto, tubes can and should have a much greater impact.

" Tubes can be inexpensive and can change the character of how an amp sounds. Don't forget substitution rules...all the tubes in bold below...can operate in place of a 12AU7. 12AU7 17 *12AU7A ECC82 6189 5814 5963 7730 6680 ECC802 ECC802S 7316 4003 195963 195815 196189 19ECC82 17 *//////////12AV7 415965 41///////////12AT7 60 *12AZ7 60CV4024 6062016679ECC81 60 *///////////5751 70*CV4017 70//////////////12AX7 100 *CV4004 1007025 1006681 100ECC83 100 *
NOSValves
I think the question was not presented with all the facts which would help everyone give more qualified answers. He already has some pretty darn good front end tubes NOS tungsol 12AU7's. IMHO once you have some good quality tubes in the front end the differences kind of blend together and become obscure. I also don't see anyone asking what IC's he has now.... He is currently using bargain bin stuff from parts express. IC's can and do make a huge difference since they are handleling the signal at it's most vunerable points. Craig

Daddy Dee
What are you using for a preamp. Craig has made some good points about quality, which you've already got in the ST.
ajcllc
I am using an upgraded Audcom AP100 preamp with some Bendix 6385 tubes. (This company is now out of business.)
