The Tubes Asylum thread says PWK used a Brook 12A push-pull 2A3 amp to design the Khorn (the source of this information was not provided, however). This makes me a little intrigued about this amp.

Does anyone out there have experience with vintage Brook amps?

Thanks again, Bob

The former Hope factory museum was full of interesting tube amps pwk used. I seem to remember Quad, Brook, Leak, Marantz, Mcintosh, Lowther and many other interesting amps that I would love to demo. There was a Brook amp mod for the Khorn and one was on ebay last year if I remember it went for high dollars. I have always wanted to hear a push pull 2A3 amp. If I remember right later on pwk used crown among others. Trey or Jim could add much more to this discussion.

From what I understand about PWK's philosophy on audio reproduction, I

think he would have picked the amp that was closest to straight wire

with gain. That's vague in technical terms, but had he

been an amplifier designer I've no doubt he would have sat down and found ways to

quantify how close amps were in ways that correlated to how we hear.

Nevertheless, this sounds like an interesting topic of discussion for a

pilgrimage. It would be great to hear from those that knew Paul

personally and could comment on his true feelings about things.

Paul,

Just having a little fun knowing the SET / PP / SS history here. I would expect that PWK would try to make sure his speakers worked well with what he knew people were purchasing at the time. Probably a wide variety of amps.

No offense meant by this comment, but it also makes sense that he certainly tested the "rails"....the amps that might present the biggest problems to his new products.
