Might as well be supersized headphones [] I like the music to sound as if it is coming from in between, (the middle) of the speakers. [8] [] [8] It is your system so put them where you want. zuzu Posted July 29, 2007 Share Posted July 29, 2007 With the speakers in front of you as a first approximation have them point at you in your listening position. Both speakers should be toed in exactly the same amount.That angle, of toe in, will be determined by how far apart the speakers are from each other and how far away you are from the speakers. If the speakers are too far apart you can have a whole in the middle. If too close together you loose sound stage. The more you toe in the better the imaging at the cost of sound stage. The more you toe back out [to the limit of straight ahead] the bigger the sound stage but imaging is reduced. For some imaging is more important than sound stage so the toe in would be more. Tarheel Posted July 29, 2007 Share Posted July 29, 2007 One of the contributors to Stereophile magazine actually uses laser pens taped to the middle of the speakers. Once the laser beams intersect at ear level of his seat of choice he is done. Little too much work for me. I used a penlight Maglight flashlight to focus my speakers; less chance of retina damage than a laser pen, and everyone has a flashlight. The setup barely took minutes. Travis I'm using a set of RB-75's positioned about a meter or so from me at around 45 degree angles. It's sort of an isosceles triangle. If you're wondering why perhaps I have them located so close is because they're hooked up to my computer.... although my computer is hooked up to a sizable 37" for a monitor. *Shrug* I'm just rather put off by how pin pointable the sound is. Do any of you guys feel like that? I WOULD like to encompass myself with like a 32.8 system *har har* but I really don't have the cash to buy another receiver and another couple sets of comparable speakers. oscarsear Posted July 29, 2007 Share Posted July 29, 2007 Actually when I was a teenager I had a simple turntable with speakers (one of those portable set-ups). My twin bed set back in a small niche and there was just enough space to mount the speakers on the sides right at ear level. It worked out Okay. It wasn't stereo but I new that when I did it. We had a big stereo downstairs with a Fisher 500, Garrard TT driving JBL D-130s' and it was configured correctly. My bedroom set-up would give me plenty of volume without disturbing the rest of the household. Just think of it as big ole ear buds and an Ipod from the late 60's.
