La Scala Industrial?

Split Tops could be stacked on top of two dog house bottoms.  It ads height in a club on a stage to sound better. I used this system as a DJ with Crown 300 amps.   Monster great sound.  It’s too heavy too big but can you even imagine showing up today with 4 LaScala’s And a huge 1802 sub? Hahahaha

Btw the Industrials have the K 43 15” woofer more punch more power allowed jus barely not as low as the K33.

My MWMs have k43s in them and I really like the upper bass out of them.

Hope you're doing ok Roger, been meaning to write for quite a while.

I'm still working on the sub.

  • 4 years later...

I bought my industrial La Scalas used about 1990.  The outside was beat up, but who cares?  About $700.  I used them for mobile DJing a lot, though not as hard as they were used before I got them.  They still sound good to me, but I'm thinking of replacing them.  If anyone has thoughts on replacing ancient La Scalas with brand new Forte IVs, I'd love to hear from them.

Hello Mike and welcome to the forum! This is a years-old thread, but as good as anywhere for your question. I've got 1978 LSIs, and while I've not heard the Forte IV, I can't imagine giving up the LSI's. I went through mine completely, tightening, replacing caps and a woofer, and generally cleaned them up. If I were you, I'd do the same and perhaps redo the cabinet exterior. You'd have essentially new LSIs at lower cost than the F-IVs.

Hello, Charlie.  It'll be hard for me too to give them up, but I don't know that I'm capable of your cleanup procedure.  I built many an electronic thingie a long while ago, but the risk of my wrecking them if I try restoration is not negligible these days.  I'd buy new La Scalas in a minute, if not for the $14k price tag; I can stand the Forte IV price tag, but not another $8k or $9k over that.  No matter -- thanks for answering!

Can you turn a screwdriver? Then you too can check your connections! Got a meter?

You're persuasive, Charlie.  Back in ancient times -- 60 years ago -- I built many a Heathkit and Dynakit.  I still have a shack full of ham radio items that I built from scratch only 5 years ago.  But I know my own limits now, and I never built or messed with a pile of parts that cost $14k.  Nope, while encouragement is always welcome, caution is the present policy for this old man.

What a kind offer!  But I'm too far away to accept.  If only I still lived back East I might snap at that!  --  My real issue, though, is, which sounds better, an ancient unrestored original model La Scala, or a Forte IV made about 50 years later?  I wonder if anybody has both, or can point me to a good essay on just how improved the gen IV stuff is.

I have only had La Scalas..  and Heresy IIs (I did have some large mwm bass cabinets but that's another story).

I've had 2 different pairs of LS, and immediately missed them once they were gone. They could easily be my... till I'm gone, speakers.

I briefly had some Chorus IIs that were in transit to someone else. They might, maybe satisfy me long term, but LS are IT for me.

I’ve had a pair of Forte 1,2 and 3. I’ve heard the Forte 4 and have owned many pair of LSI’s. In my opinion, there is no question the LSI’s sound better.
Better might not be the right word. I would prefer LSI’s over any of the Forte’s though.

Marvel, and nickyboy6100, you're just about convincing me to give up the hunt for anything better.  Thanks for your contributions.

I will part with my 75 LS before my LSI!!

Mike Jackson. If you want better than LSI’s, find a pair of MWM’s. They are better. Just much bigger.

nickyboy6100:  :lol::lol: I wonder how they'd work with my desktop computer.

They would sound great. They are rather large, though. Cleanest bass I've ever heard.
