zuzu
Has anyone owned both or heard both? Which sounds better or do they sound almost the same?
masterxela
Do a search, lots of reading.
jacksonbart
Well lets hope that the older threads that addressed this have been relinked already as part of the software update.
Arky
I've heard both & prefered the 7's & that's what it is, a preference.
Deang
I haven't spent a lot of time with the RF-83, but what I have heard makes me want to say it's not as dynamic as the RF-7.
masterxela
I have dean g'd rf-7's like you, can't imagine looking for another speaker, ever.... what's possesed you?
Arky
Yeah, I didn't notice that. Forget the 83's.
colterphoto1
I spent some time with them side by side at Ovation Audio. In my limited trial, the RF7 sounded like it had deeper bass at first but they were pretty equal in that department with further listening. I found the RF83 to have much smoother mid frequency response.
DrWho
I think I prefer the RF-83 to the RF-7, mostly for the smoother midrange. I haven't had much time with either speaker though so I won't try to comment on any of the more minor details.
jacksonbart
Are you near Rutgers NJ? Another forum member has RF-83s and is looking at Heresy's perhaps you could contact him for a listen. Selecting speakers is difficult obviously since the room that they are in can have such an impact on the sound, have you been out to a dealer to take a listen to the RF-83s yet? zuzu
Thanks for your comments. The reason for my question!! My brother has been listening to my system(s) for 30 years. I have made some recent improvements that I think really caught his attention and now he has started down the slippery path to improve his system. He loves my RF-7's as do I. Having never heard the 83's I asked the question for him. [MY RF-7s are going nowhere! ] So based on everything, price a consideration, I will recommend the RF-7's to him, giving all the feedback you gave me. I have made some serious tweaks to my system. I cannot believe the RF-7's had what I am now hearing, in them. I'll post that separately. Stay tuned. Thanks for the help once again. el jopez
As already posted the new lineup has a much nicer/smoother midrange that just flows. When I first heard the 83's in passing, I was impressed at how easy the sound was being reproduced. However, they do lack the wow factor ther older lineup had. Its almost an apple to oranges comparison since one set has a feature the other doesn't' have.
Arky
That's where the better networks come into play. As already posted the new lineup has a much nicer/smoother midrange that just flows. Fish
I had both in my house, the 83's/64 for a few months.I can't say anything bad about the 83's,they sounded very nice.On the other hand I can't say enough about the 7's,just a fantastic speaker for the money.I don't think anyone has ever heard their full potential.I sold the 83's for a steal to a member, the 7's remain, having stayed through many shoot-outs with various makers and other Klipsch. el jopez
Arky, If I had the disposable income I'd mod the networks in a heartbeat. But seeing how I'm a poor college student who can barely afford what he has now... it's going to have to wait till later.
DrWho
Dang dude, you aren't doing half bad for being a poor college student! [Y] So you got all that in a dorm, or do you have an apartment on campus somewhere?
masterxela
1 poor student to the next - how much for that adcom? I was gonna hold out for the mps-1, but for the right price....... Right now I could probably put together, say $26? (just dropped some jl gear in the car, 3 year anniversary, christmas, and bought a wet bar)
