ajcllc
Why does my computer while streaming audio through Real Player sound much better than my Denon DVD-2900? Is it because the Denon is a five-year old technology, and the sound card in the Apple Macbook Pro is much newer...about a year old? I am amazed by the clarity and quality of music coming through right now! It is really musical and very warm and is running through my tube preamp and tube amp into my Forte II's . Has anyone else noticed this difference or is doing anything similar?
el jopez
Your using Real Player? [+o(] I pray your not listening to .rm or .ram files.
LarryC
Can't answer your question specifically, but I've been very impressed with how much clearer and more musical a Mac is than my Dell desktop, in spite of replacing the sound card with a Sound Blaster Audigy and getting a 2.1 Promedia system. My next computer will probably be a Mac.
ajcllc
It is a subscription of Rhapsody that uses Real Player. However, I am not sure what files are streamed, but whatever they are, they sound really good.
InnerTuber
Why does my computer while streaming audio through Real Player sound much better than my Denon DVD-2900?Hard to say w/o more info, but if you are running a micro jack split into RCA's as the comparison, I'd take a wild guess at this point that your stream audio is being upsampled by the Denon as it tries to help. As I said, a guess. What kind of stream are you playing?
InnerTuber
My next computer will probably be a Mac.I agree for a music server, tho Windows probably can do a FLAC/Foobar/DVD/Media center type system, currently with a few more "features". But, if you go uncompressed, I like Mac.
InnerTuber
I read the Rhapsody web feed is AAC which your Denon might not totally understand. Do you run CD's thru it? How's that sound? I'm not sure if Rhapsody is still using AAC, I think they were a couple years ago. Never really tried it myself.
el jopez
Maybe localized EQ is being appplied when using Real software? I havent' used the software in years. I dumped that garbage after disconvering Winamp... then AOL helped destroy a wonderful product and dev team.
ajcllc
The e.q. is set to flat. I also like Winamp, but I must say that Real Player has really improved and now sounds very comparable to it. I think it is an improved version when you subscribe to Rhapsody.
