I might be in for a Klipsch Kruise.Paradise

Wow Michael that would be too cool!!! I would really like to see about organizing a group cruise for Klipsch forum members. Cruises aboard Carnival departing from New Orleans, LA and/or Mobile, AL begin around $239.00 per person in the off season (Nov., Dec., & Jan.), LA Some members would have to fly in. Skonopa said the airfare was "reasonable".

Groomy expressed interest, especially if we depart from Mobile. We also have two other couples (who are friends of ours that have already committed). If we get enough interest and can book as a group we receive some nice little extras. Depending on the size of the group extras can include onboard credit (spending money) when you check in. On this cruise we had six cabins booked. Each cabin received two tote bags in their room upon arrival. The tote bags sold for $22.95 in the Fun Shop store onboard. I can initially have the cruise scheduled as a group, which requires an initial ten room commitment. Even if we do not fill all ten rooms we still get the benefit of reduced deposits when each of us calls to individually book.

December and January are the least expensive months. In 2006 we cruised in early December, this time we cruised the end of April. The water temperature in Cozumel was the same. Cold at first, but very comfortable once you were in the water. The air temperature was around 80-85 degrees each day.

Also, Carnival offers Camp Carnival for kids over 2 years thru teen. Camp Carnival is included in the fare for children. It is free until 10:00 p.m., thereafter the charge is $6.00 for the first child/teen and $4.00 for each additional child in the family. Buddy is homeschooled which makes it easy for us to take him with us. In Allie's case (first grade), Jennifer spoke with Allie's teacher and the teacher allowed Allie to miss class and do a report on her experiences.

I think a Klipsch Kruise would be a really great thing....if enough people express interest and book we could have t-shirts made to wear on the cruise. We had a group called the "Woo-Hoo Cruise" onboard this time. The more members we can get to go the more fun we can have. [H] [ip]

I would love to see the forum members get together and take a cruise. I had posted a thread about six months before our last cruise, but got no takers. Maybe we could try it again, once I get some details together.

I do remember it now. I saw your other post below as well, and am very definitely intersted in this. This time, make sure to get Amy or one of the other moderators to "sticky" it up (I honostly don't remember if you had it "stickied up" or not before, but I don't think you did). I think part of the problem was that the thread ended up getting buried and thus forgotten about, especially when you are talking about something that won't take place until some 6+ months out.

In any event I will keep you posted, and by all means let me know what you decide about the Cruise to Nowhere.

I think you would really like it. Most cruises (5-7 days) also have a "singles only get together" on the ship. You could try to get a friend to go with you.

Remember if you book during the month of May your military discount is equal to the employee discount with Carnival. You don't have to cruise during May, just book. Let me know if you decide to do the Cruise to Nowhere and I will give you our Carnival contact person's name.

Well, guess what I ended up booking! [:D] Booked at a total cost of $433 just for myself. On this short of notice, I just simply called up Carnival themselves and asked about the military rate and so forth. The lady was really helpful and she did try to get me the best rate she could get. Probably would've been cheaper per person if I could've gotten somebody to go with me, but on this short of notice, I was not even going to try.

The ship departs from Norfolk, VA at 4:30 on the 7th and returns Monday Morning at 7 AM. I'll be able to do this without even having to miss work! (I'll still make it in on Monday, although a little later than I normally come in). The cruise takes place on the Victory.

This ought to be a blast, plus being in June, the weather ought to be really nice, so of course - many tropical drinks by the poolside! [ip]

Steve,

That is sooo cool! I really hope you enjoy yourself...and meet some new friends! I think you will love it...if nothing else you will enjoy getting away from it all. No cell phones, no visitors, knocking on your door.... just you...the ship...beautiful scenery...tropical drinks by the pool and generally speaking good music and cool people looking to have a good time!

It will be a great opportunity for you to experience a cruise....be sure and let us know what you think. Just in case....the ships always have sea sick medicine....just ask any employee of Carnival where the infirmary is....the packets of medicine are usually in a tray mounted outside the infirmary door.

I am definitely looking into a Klipsch Kruise.....can't wait to hear how you like your "Cruise to Nowhere"!

And the funny thing was that I thought about just going down to VA Beach for the weekend anyway. This would be way cooler, plus by the time I figure in hotel and meals and such, in the end, the cost would've probably come to nearly the same anyways.

I will most certainly post a TR (trip report) afterwards letting you all know what I thought and how it went for me.

Steve,

FYI, if you get real bored....or just have forum withdrawals there is an Internet Cafe' aboard most, if not all Carnival ships. You can secure internet time either by the minute, or in thirty minute increments, which can be used whenever you choose! Just in case, phone calls from your cabin cost $6.99 per minute, the cost on our last cruise. It's a nice feature if you need to use it.

Be sure to fill out all of your paperwork online if you set your trip up like that....once you complete your online registration you can print your fun pass, luggage tags and all relevant information. Be sure to bring this paperwork with you. You can attach the luggage tags using a stapler. In your case it may be easier to just carry on your luggage. Be sure to use the debit/credit card you want to link your Sail and Sign card to while onboard. Bring the debit/credit card with you when you check in at the terminal. The card that will be linked to your Sail and Sign Card must be presented when you check in the terminal.

You can email/pm me through the forum if you need any help.

I am really excited for you, I think you are going to have a great time.

I highly doubt the boredom part will be an issue, especially as this is only some little two-day affair. However, the according to Carnival's website, the Victory should have WiFi pretty much from stem to stern. I may consider bringing my laptop. I wonder how much they charge for the WiFi access (I highly doubt it'll be free)

Yup, already done as far as the paperwork part is concerned. I'll definitely being bringing a single carry-on bag, which is how I normally travel (with the execption of the ski trips - kinda tough to carry on a pair of skis).

I guess I'll have to bring at least one set of nice clothes for the dinning, otherwise, I am pretty much in shorts the entire time on these types of thing. Hell, I wore shorts the entire time I was in Las Vegas this past March, and that was on business!

I'll have my camera and will have to take a few pictures of the experience.

This will be a pretty cool way to kill off a weekend!

By all means bring the camera. WiFi isn't that expensive, but I would purchase the 30 minute deal, cuz it is ridiculous "by the minute".

Also here's a pic of dtel at Margaritaville, Grand Cayman....I hope he doesn't kill me for this.

OB.. yep is really is beautiful up here. The rocky coast is incredible, we did a "windjammer" sail boat trip for a week 2 years ago. It was amazing, mind you different from the caribbean but amazing.

Not everyone will ever get to see the beauty of Maine ................... and the Coast has cold water....brrrr!

I have never seen Maine or most of the northern east coast, or the northern wests coast for that matter, why do I head south anyway ?

Might be clear warm water and palm trees ?

  • 3 weeks later...

I'll have my camera and will have to take a few pictures of the experience.

Okay (to quote myself!)

Just got back from this little 2-day cruise. It was quite an experience and I did get to meet some pretty cool people. I sailed on the Carnival Victory.

Here are a couple of pictures I took:

IMG_2476Medium.jpg

The waterslide and pool

IMG_2481Medium.jpg

Over looking the pool and the so-called "Seaside Theater". Just after I took this picture, they started to play Brian Setzer Orchestra's One Rockin' Night concert video on there. That was pretty cool!

IMG_2488Medium.jpg

A shot of downtown Norfolk and the USS Wisconsin docked at the Nauticus Maritime Center (BTW, that is a really cool place to check out!). I took this just as the ship is pulling away from the pier.

IMG_2490Medium.jpg

Cute little puppy that my room stawardess made out of towels. I thought that was just so cool, so of course, I had to take a picture of it!

Overall, it was a really fun and intersting time. Did it have the viscerial experience like I would've gotten from any one of the ski trips that I've gone on? No, but it was quite an experience anyway. Granted, I never was much of a club and bar type of person (except to go to the local metal club to see some shows), but I did get to meet some cool people, including a few folks that were also from this area as well! They already said they may ask me to come to thier place for the Fourth of July. I may end up taking them up on it! One very attractive lady also asked me to dance with her during the Captian's Cocktail party in the Club Arctica dance club. Also had alot of fun to hanging out and chatting with my tablemates in the dinning room for dinner (and WOW, what a dinner indeed!) Would I do it again - you bet, but I can't help to think how much more fun this may have been if I could've gone with a group or something such.

If we end up doing a Klipsch Kruise, definitly count me in! I'd love to go on a full-on Caribbean cruise. There is another "Cruise to Nowhere" coming up in October out of Norfolk. I may seriously consider going on it. I've gotten a few guys at work interested in it.

Wow, really cool pics.

A "Cruise to Nowhere" is undoubtedly a little different than cruising to a Carribean destination![ip]

It sounds like you had a great time despite not having an actual "destination"!

"Did it have the viscerial experience like I would've gotten from any one of the ski trips that I've gone on? No, but it was quite an experience anyway."

dtel said: "If you want viscerial....go on a cruise when a hurricane is headed straight up that way![;)] Or go on what the "cruise specialists" say is a "meat market cruise" or "singles cruise"!

Seriously, the lack of a "tropical island destination" may have something to do with your experience. The water in the Carribean is awesome. We took a ride down to Pensacola, FL this weekend and I have to say it is nice, but nothing like the "Carribean" experience. I have always been a "snow person" myself. I absolutely love the Smokies in winter, but I have to say the Carribean Islands have tied for first place with the Smokies! It's tough for me to choose between the two.

And....you had a room "stewardess"....we have always had a room "steward"![;)]

I figured you would meet a few people on the boat...you ought to take them up on the 4th of July thing. You never know they might want to "cruise" again.

The food is great onboard Carnival...not so sure about other cruise lines. I really like Carnival because it is so personable.

I am still working on details with the travel agent. I really wish we could get some more imput from other forum members....I hate making all the decisions myself. Maybe I should email Amy and get some ideas....not sure what that would accomplish, but it would be great if some of the employees of Klipsch would join us. I would also need to see if we could use "Klipsch Kruise"....we may have to get some disclaimers signed or something, so Klipsch couldn't be held responsible.

The difficulty in planning a cruise comes in with everyone being so spread out all over the country.....a lot of folks have to plan this kind of "vacation" around their kids school schedule. I am really thinking a cruise about a year away would be the way to go....that would give everyone some time to get things together.

So...do you have anything else you want to share with us....that was a rather short review you gave!
