Bladerunner. Amazing computer restoration. Film looks and sounds like it was made today. Buy the collectors set, watch the original then the BR. What a difference.

The Descent (Uncompressed PCM). Incredible sound. Sharp/detailed picture with cool splashes of color...when it's not pitch black. Fun horror movie. The surrounds really make you feel like you're down in he cave. The echos, the water dripping, dust/dirt flying around, etc etc etc. When the shxt hits the fan some low thumpin' John Carpenter-ish music starts bumpin and it's a barrage of sound coming at you. Love it!

I vote for Blade Runner too. Feels like it could have been made in 2008.

Some of my personal favorites, from the many BDs I own, in no particular order

  1. The Descent: for its most excellent sound
  2. Crank: if you want to see pores, spotless digital video, this movie has some fantastic appeal
  3. Pirates of the Carribean - Curse of the Black Pearl: a more "filmy" look than some of the digital movies, but absolutely amazing, and absolutely stunning sound
  4. Sunshine: Stunning video, stunning sound, 5star in each IMHO. An absolutely bombastic DTS-HDMA soundtrack
  5. Cars: I absolutely love the sound in this one
  6. Ice Age - the meltdown: some of the glacier sounds are house-rattling, and the fur on some of the animals shows the detail of BD very nicely
  7. Casino Royale
  8. Batman Begins: out tomorrow on BD! I can promise based on the HD-DVD version it will be an audio/visual masterpiece, demo quality for sure

In addtion to these I've Netflixed many BDs I thought had great audio/video : Ultraviolet, all the Resident Evil movies, Silent Hill, Blood Diamond, No Country for Old Men, Apocalyptico.... the list goes on.

I highly recommend "Meet the Robinsons" as a must own. The color and picture detail are amazing. Also the sound is great.

I don't know about top ten, but "Patton" just came out in Blu-Ray. Excellent video quality. Amazing. Looks clearer and cleaner than what was presented at the movies in 1970 (when it was released).

Batman begins will be a new one on my list without even having it yet. Hands down the HD DVD version was amazing.

Good to know on Patton...I love that movie and might pick this up at BB tomorrow.

So far I have.....300, iRobot, Cars, Ratatouille, The Fifth Element, Superbad, The Patriot, Spiderman Trilogy and Batman Begins. I think they all look and sound kickass!...haha.......I mean I even popped in my Star Wars dvds and the PS3 makes them look pretty dam killer. Sometimes I can't even sit, I just stand there in awe of how killer blu-ray looks and sounds. 300 has me standing and in awe. It's grain and contrast are intentional but I think it looks and sounds killer!

I definitely agree with these anything Disney/Pixar is great, I think Hellboy looked great if anyone saw it, Crank had an awesome look unlike any other movie I've ever seen. I'm trying to get an idea of all the movies that look and sound great so that my library is on point!

My son and I have over 50 Blu-ray movies and love the format.......one to consider if you have the sub power is Cloverfield. You have to get used to the picture format because it is shot as a one person documentary with a hand held camera (like Blair Witch on steroids), but it is good and the sound is incredible.

When you crank up the sound the bass response will exceed any movie we own.....between Jet aircraft, tanks, machine gun fire and all other types of explosions the rumble is enough to satisfy most bass junkies out there......again if you can rent it first do so, but I think it is good enough to buy just to show friends what a good HT sound system can do fo for movies,

Sound and Vision just put out a list of their Top 10. I don't have it at work or I would post them.
