bliss53
I wonder if they will sound better when they break in. Do 29 year old (new) speakers need to break in? A very different sound than my quartets, more forward, different soundstage, not better, just different. Still like the my cornwall I's the best. These will be great start for my heritage surround system.
Groomlakearea51
Great "score"!!! Other than possibly new caps in the crossovers (Check with BEC), I'd let them (or your ears...) "break in" for a while. I'd remove the backs, if you have not done so and check the caps. They should be mounted vertically on the left side (as you face the rear), and for 1979 H-I's, the caps should be silver "cans" (Aerovox). Make sure there is no discoloration around the tops of the cans, and in particular no brown gummy residue that looks like it leaked from the "cans". If so then they need to be removed as soon as possible. Otherwise they will probably be fine until you get a chance to replace them. The old Aerovox's are oil filled and most often, over time will simply dry out.
colterphoto1
Very well done Pete. Yeah 192nd might have been a little touch and go. At least you knew to head straight home once you got those beauties in the car. Are you going to leave the owner's manual attached?
