Could this possibly be a reaction between the copper and fumes from whatever wood you're burning in your stove? Copper is a very reactive material.

I haven't fiddled with them in a while, been busy building Mogami headphone cables and Deuland DCA16GA interconnects. I bought two L-Pads to give me some adjustment for the LMAHL tweeters but haven't installed them. I can't seem to talk myself into drilling holes in the cabinets to mount them or putting them in the circuit between the tweeter and the crossover. L-Pads are essentially a rheostat and, imho and correct me if I'm wrong, have to introduce some noise into or alter the circuit in some way. Been thinking about taking the LMAHLs out and putting my titanium K-79-Ks back in for a while for a comparison. Honestly, I just don't really know what I want to do. I think being cooped up for nine months hiding from Covid is beginning to wear me down and not how I envisioned retirement.

I've had them in mine for a while now. It's not that I don't like them because I do. They sound very good indeed but they seem to overpower the mids a bit. I've got an inch of foam lining the 2/3 of the cabinet (bare around the ports) and maybe I should remove some of it and let the LMAHLs and the mids resonate a bit. It just seems like the 20s have lost something, could be several things doing it. I've made several gear changes lately.

Do they taste like lasagna after they're baked for three hours? 😁

I still want to try a couple of Mogamis. My RCA plugs will be here tomorrow, should have them built Tuesday. I've got all BJC in my system and I'm very happy with them but I'll try the Mogamis just to see what they'll do. Can't hurt anything.

I'm going to build a couple of Mogami 2549 interconnects this week and see if they make a difference. I'm presently breaking in some 12AX7 and 12AT7 Raytheon USA black plates in the preamp. They sound mellower so far.

Maybe I should try toeing them in a bit more. The way they are now the triangle would come to a point 2 feet behind my listening position. Also, due to the shape of my room the right speaker is about 1.5 feet from the side wall and the left is about 6 feet from the other side wall. They're both 18 inches out from the wall behind them. It's not a room that's very good for stereo, but it is what it is.

I've got my KLF-20s toed in but I'm wondering if I should have them straight ahead? I recently installed the LMAHL tweeters and they brightened them up quite a bit. Would pointing them straight ahead lessen some of the brightness and shoutiness of the horns? I already have Bob's crossovers with his bandpass for the titanium mid that I put in them. I also wonder if the LMAHL tweeter is a mismatch for the crossover? They sound really good with movies but with music they're more shouty and bright than they were before I put the LMAHLs in. Anyone have any thoughts, opinions, or advice? Thanks, Sam

When I put the LMAHL's in my KLF-20's I was in the middle of doing some mods on my Jolida JD9a. I was soldering in some Obbligato caps and changing out four of the BB OPA627ap op amps for LT1028's leaving two BB's in the output position. When I finished everything I put Donald Fagen's Nightfly on the Scout and had a "Holy Crap This Sounds Good" moment. Haven't had one of those in a while. The music just jumped out at me. More detail, better mids, tighter bass, I could finally really hear cymbals that actually sounded like cymbals. I ordered two more Obbligatos for the Jolida JD5T preamp that should be here next week. Can't wait to hear what that 's going to add to the mix. I've got GE 5751 JAN triple micas in the JD9 and I've got another pair of them I'm thinking about putting in the JD5T, while it's apart, in place of the Psvane 12ax7's that are in there now. Really impressed with the overall quality of the LMAHL's , I wasn't expecting such a really nice change. It's not often you actually get what you pay for.

Got them in and they sound very good indeed. To my ears they're clearer and sweeter than the titaniums, cymbals are much better with more ring and presence. The LMAHL's so far seem to blend a bit better with the titanium mids. Money well spent IMHO.

My only concern is whether they'll blend well with my mids. I've got the oem , can't remember the part #, Klipsch titanium diaphragms in the mids. I talked to Bob about the crossovers before I bought the mids and he advised me to let him build a bandpass add on for the new crossovers to compensate for the titanium mids. He told me these were the first crossovers for KLF-20's that he had built with the bandpass. I'm confident that they'll be OK because if anybody knows Klipsch it's Bob Crites. As I mentioned earlier I've never been satisfied with the tweeters and I've always believed that they are overwhelmed by the mids and are the biggest weakness in the 20's. The 20's to my ears sound better and smoother with movies than they do with music. Cymbals sound very recessed and gritty on two channel music so hopefully Dave's units will rectify this. That's just my personal opinion and I'm looking forward to hearing the LMAHL's.

It's done, I went for it and ordered them a few minutes ago.

I'm going to order a pair tomorrow.
