  1. Sorry about that. A couple of us unintentionally sidetracked your thread (as so often happens with forums). As others have already shared, the 103 can absolutely be a plug-and-play solution for you. Just FYI, if shopping for Oppo players, you will occasionally come across model numbers followed by the letter D (in my case, I have the 103D). This implies it is a "Darbee Edition" model where the Darbee video enhancing capabilities are included with the player (just another item to play with when trying to optimize the picture quality). Good luck!
  2. Which DAC are you using and what connections are you leveraging (both in and out)? I also have a 103D (Darbee edition) although I'm currently just going TOSLink out to my older AVR.
  3. I don't know why I spend so much time on other forums when.....I love Klipsch! 50/50 between HT and music......the evolution of the theater build is shared here. Current equipment: HK AVR7200 ||| RF7ii's • RF64ii • R-5800W's • RS52ii's • single RW-12 replaced DEAD dual RW12d's ||| Panasonic AE3000U (upgrade soon) ||| DIY screen ||| White Lightning Moonshine Cables Looking to get to an Auro 3D-compatible setup soon. Equipment research has begun....
  4. Logical and very helpful feedback - thx guys. Time for Craigslist........
  5. Basement 7.2 HT project - 21' x 20' room of which we're using ~1/2 of it as a theater. I know I need a diagram but haven't created one yet. Regardless, from a price perspective, my mind is made up to go with KLF-30s as my fronts w/ a matched center. BUT........I keep reading about how good some of the older models sound. Does anyone have a solid comparison for how much better these older models are than the "newer" Legends? I can't really stomach dropping $2K for a pair, still needing to find a good center vs. ~$750 for a high quality full set of 30's w/ a center included. I can't help wondering, however, what I'm missing out on...... I'm having a difficult time just figuring out what exactly is the ranking of the older models as well. From top to bottom, rated by sound quality, how would you all rate the older lineup so I can also keep my eyes open for good deals as I slowly try to fill out the front mains in my HT setup. My current system downstairs that I'm trying to match up with, to the best degree possible, is in my signature below. Thanks again for the input.......... --todd
  6. I had to chime in on this one. Tweeter, AKA Showcase Electronics in Arizona, was having the same (unfortunate) going-out-of-business sale. I also picked up the some of the same gear you note above (by NO means am I trying to trump your deal.....). Here's what I grabbed (woohoo!!!): 2 - RS-52 surround rears - $205 each. 2 - R-5800-W center surrounds - $199 each. 2 - RW-12D subwoofers - $407 each. 1 - Panamax 5300 (I think that's the model # - definitely not the 5100) - $225 A few miscellaneous cables........ Christmas came early........... :) This will go a long way towards our basement HT project. I'll post pics hopefully later this week as I get these installations wrapped up.
  7. Thanks for the replies. I am definitely willing to explore the used market.......I'm in no hurry and it actually sounds like fun as opposed to going to the store and dropping my credit card on the counter. What's the fun in that (besides running home and immediately enjoying your new toys)? A DIY sub would be a fun project if had anything that resembled free time to take on such a chore. No chance I'll be tackling any such project w/ baby No. 2 due soon. I'll check in regularly w/ any progress. No need to continue to bump my own thread until such time I have something to share. Wish me luck.......
  8. First off - hello. I've been trolling for a little while now and have been impressed by the number of dedicated regulars here. It's always easier to jump into the mix after reading a lot of positive contributions from the various members on numerous topics. I'm slowly putting together my wish list for our basement theater (mixed use actually: theater, music, games - in that order). I'm demo'ing some local KLF-10s with a matching CC this weekend but continue to be flustered with speaker decisions. I'm wired for a 7.2 system (yes, 2 subs - when we built our home, I wasn't sure of the sub location so I'm wired for 2 - could be fun). I've read plenty of good things about the KLFs but haven't ever heard them personally so this weekend should be a good introduction to horns. Our basement, however, is 21' x 20' and I question whether the 10s are big enough. Of that space, we're essentially using 21' (L) x 12' (W) for the theater area. Pics/designs will follow soon in support of these dimensions and layout but are there any negatives to looking at the KLFs that you can think of? Does anyone have any good feedback for RS-7s as ceiling-mounted side and rear surrounds? Does anyone have any good feedback for the CDT-5800-C as in-ceiling side and rear surrounds? Does anyone have any good feedback concerning either of these speakers mated with KLFs? I suppose the best question I can leave with is this: if you were starting over, what would you be looking out for in terms of a 7.1/2 system? In this scenario, $2 - $5K for speakers is a realistic budget. My receiver for the basement is an HK AVR-7200. From what I've read, I believe it should be fine for quite a while pushing the highly-sensitive Klipsch options I've been considering thus far. I'm very happy with this unit and am anxious to put it to better use in a bigger basement system. I realize this is a bit scattered but I wanted to get the postings/questions started. Thanks in advance and I look forward to your input. --t
