  1. Am in need of this piece (ADCOM GTP-600) for one of my set-ups that is demanding multiple audio inputs (more than my current remoteless ADCOM pre has to offer); the GTP-600 is right up my alley and its "learning remote controller" RC-65 will make my multimedia tasking much easier. Just puttin' this out there - ya never know...
  2. Hi, Tech Savvy Klipsch people: Am awaiting arrival of a Kenwood KM-X1000 130WPC amp, to be used in conjunction with my Kenwood Basic C2 pre I will run a pair each of Chorus IIs stacked "horn to horn" with my Heresy pair (you know, one atop the other). I currently am using a 90WPC JVC AX-7 integrated to power these two pairs, and enjoy the sound quality of the two pairs running "stacked" in the same room and now I can add an extra 40 watts to the mix and step up to very adequate "upper mid-fi" power of the Kenwood amp, due to arrive this week or next. There are two speakers pairs (A + output terminals at the back of the existing JVC vintage unit, and these I hook my two pair of Klipsch to and rock on blissfully. However, when I hook my new amp up (Kenwood), it will have only a single pair of speaker terminal outputs. My plan is to use an old ADCOM GFS-4 speaker selector box I have had around for ages, run the Kenwood amp l/r speaker outputs to this ADCOM speaker selector 'input", and simply attach the two pairs of Klipsch speakers to this speaker selector box (outputs), and play the two speakers simultaneously and at the same time and coincidentally and contemporaneous with each other.... This will make for 4 ohm impedance across the two pairs, will it not? Is this advisable for a vintage mid-fi freak as I do I run any risks associated with this rudimentary wiring strategy? As (?) David Crosby said at the outset of "Almost Cut My Hair", " I will now proceed to entangle the entire area"...
  3. By the way, I loved on that old blog how Paul Klipsch, it is said, had a 2A3 in his office!! That is conclusive, no?
  4. Bruce - it's the little things... Wellbourne Labs / 2A3 'Dogs will be my vector for either DIY or as-bought - you know it brother and one day I will know it too. I came across an old 2006 blog you added to and I am sure you Moondog devotees are right on, so my mind has settled on a single objective in this department - thank you again for your input! Paul in Ontario
  5. OK Please work with me here! Heard a SET tube amp exactly once - in a demo attached to a set of modest Klipsch KG 3.2's I bought for $100 a month ago from a private seller. The KG3.2 seller builds 'em (tube amps) for himself and also as of 10 years ago, began collecting NOS tubes by the boxful - he has about 50 liquor box sized boxes of tubes in a room (Soviet, etc etc) and I think is going to custom build amps in his retirement. Anyway, the demo was sufficient to wake me up to the amazing sonic detail of a simple tube amp. Like drinking a perfect, complex wine after drinking vacuous plonk by comparison... I am sure what you have pictured here a/ I could somehow build for myself, with some trial and error and a lot of patient application of my time. However b/ it would be a lot simpler if I were to buy a pair of your (or some other seasoned maker of these extraordinary machines) NOS MonoBlocks. What would these "as pictured monos" of yours cost me and what else would I need to make my Chorus II's , Hereseys or several of my other modest Klipsch (KG4, KG 3.2) sound best.? Would I need a pre-amp for these "as pictured" . Fro a first time tube amp wannabe, what alternatives do you suggest (and I am certain "build it yourself" might be your strongest recommendation after all it seems so bloody straightforward!). I am looking for simplicity but also want to experience those unparalleled sonics as can only be derived from such great basic old school technology as can be delivered via tube audio technology. If you have a moment, please set me straight on your area of expertise. Your amps (I assume these are of your hand) are lovely creations! Thanks, Paul in Ontario
  6. Don't know if these links show up in your US search engine (probably) but here is some Canuck Audo Mart banter on Yaqin amps and tube swaps therein... http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7949&start=15 I think I would like to buy one (a Yaqin) instead of building a tube amp from scratch to get into tubes for the first time, and do what these tube geeks call "tube rolling" when they swap one manufacturer / type of tube out for another and seek that to their particular ears perfect sound. It sure sounds a helluva lot easier than building one on a workbench, and the price seems right especially if I found one on the pre-owned market... so thanks for bringing Yaqin to my attention. I may just try one!
  7. oh eye sea ... I hadn't read any yakkin' about Yaqin, and did not check your hardware list, so I missed that and the fact that Yaqin is a choob-based deal... your set-up must be therefore putting good signals thru those KG 4's... I just spent the night making cd's, sitting in front of my KG4s for several hours (run off my IMac in my home office) Pat Metheny, Nick Drake, Paul Weller, John Mayall, Muddy and Susan Tedeschi it all sounded really tight and right on those KG4's yes there are "better ' audio experiences out there, but all one has to do is turn it up to add sonic brilliance with these modest KG4's they do so well as a speaker period, and it is a great thrill to hear "tight and bright" coming from these bargain landmark Klipsch examples. I feel blessed and lucky to have these dialed in its good food for the ears and what's between 'em.
  8. As a total newbie, I say this: (Having just bought A/ a pair of Chorus II's last month, B/ a pair of KG 4 two weeks ago, and C/ a pair of KG 3.2 this week - already a longtime proud owner of some Hereseys...). ...The KG 3.2 seller last week was into building his own tube amps he had about 50 full-sized boxes of tubes he had collected since he built his first tube amp 10 years ago, and has plans to manufacture / sell one-off amps in his future. He drove the KG 3.2's I bought through this particular tube amp he had built, for me to hear / audition the KG 3.2s maybe 8.5 watts (less?) output. It was a modestly-built tube amp a standard configuration he explained that of the seven or so tubes, they ranged in individual cost to him of between $2.00 to $10.00, no more... I cannot be certain, as we did not do an A vs B / tube vs transistor amp comparison, but I think I was listening to a pretty special signal as compared to a standard transistor amp. The sound was superb!!! The sound was amazing!! We listened to passages from about eight different cd's and a dvd of Thelonious Monk and band in Norway in 1966 - all I can say is WOW! So my recommendation to you is to build a tube amp and hear the superior sound that results.
  9. I came across this link: http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/general-car-audio-discussion-no-question-dumb/83957-andy4879-ebay-scammer-does-charge-backs.html and it appears that you have encountered another similar sort of ebay scam artist. At some stage you should call the cops if it goes totally south. Just try to pressure the holy hell out of this d-bag. Consolation may be that you were rooked out of only a certain sum - there are far greater frauds out there as we all know. If it doesn't right itself (this apparent fraud) let this stand as a cautionary tale for all of us scrupulous, honest people... Best of luck, amigo... PS Ebay should somehow offer you some sort of consolation or compensation, I think...
  10. Hey wow thanks for sharing Abby on vocals - I just joined klipsch forum late last night cuz I want to hunt up some heritage speaks... Her Barracuda was great, then I went next (on UTube) to her and her friends performing an acoustic Fly By Night from Rush - I remember setting up for Rush at my high school here in sw Ontario, in exchange for free attendance to their gig - Fly By Night had just been released, and I wasn't 't much older then than Abby is in this clip... Abby nailed it and it was awesome to hear her slow the boys down with her perfectly pitched and controlled delivery - I am sure Geddy Lee and the his band are proud of her - I loved that - thanks again!
